We had to do all this in 1980 for the Bermuda race. We made a double lower companionway board that had a wide outer layer that pressed against the cabin instead of the wood frame and the same for an upper board. The lower board was tied in place offshore all the time and the upper board could be

I was looking at the new requirements which can be downloaded as a spreadsheet here: https://www.ussailing.org/ser-2019-0/ I have questions about whether older C&C's meet the Requirements 2.1.1 and 2.1.3 for "Coastal" and "Ocean" racing. I don't fully understand some of the terminology. 2.1.1 A

Stus-List Dual purpose of windlass electrical wires?

Don, You would have to energize the windlass circuit to be able to hook to them and charge your battery bank. Mine has a magnetic switch like a solenoid and uses power to hold the switch closed. Yours may just be a switch. I would want to have a fused dedicated circuit for your solar. Better op

I think you would be better off running a separate duplex wire back to the controller near the batteries. It’s a long run, so the size of the wire will depend on the current. Let’s assume a 25 ft length of duplex wire, then that's 50 ft of wire both ways. The tables for a 3% voltage drop re

You'll want a solar controller attached to the battery cables and mounted in a clean dry location. You could then make a pigtail with connector to lead to your solar panels. PM for other thoughts/details. Josh Muckley S/V Sea Hawk 1989 C&C 37+ Solomons, MD On Thu, Apr 4, 2019, 10:40 AM DON JONS

FWIW, if you need to patch an active leak below the water line, get some JB Weld WaterWeld from an auto parts store. It will cure in the presence of water. There are other similar products. Search for pool repair epoxy, etc. Keep a tube on your boat. Also keep a couple of toilet bowl wax rings

Hi Don, I don’t think you want the full windlass load to go through your solar charge controller. So, I would think, that putting the controller between the solar panels and the long windlass cables would be a way to go. I would think hard about how you are going to protect these long wires fro

Hi All Sort of a weird question, but hopefully someone has some insight. We have been struggling with where to put solar panels on our C&C 34. We now think that we will get a couple of flexible panels and leave them free, at least for now. The plan would be to put them out on the fore deck wh

I’m with Joe on this. I considered carbon but the $800-1000 extra cost was not worth it. The key for me is that I can store the line control whisker pole attached to the mast, so I don’t ever have to pick it up, thus the extra weight of the aluminum version is not a problem. Dave S/V Aries 1
