You could sail on jib alone if short handed. The boat tacks surprisingly well,
but obviously not as well as it does when balanced.RonWild CheriSTL

The old rule for our boats was "keep the power up front."I believe you'd have
been better off with the small jib and reefed main. These boats used to have
170s before PHRF set the free limit at 155%.My boat had a bullet proof low
hoist 150 as the smallest sail and a 160 for normal sailiing when I

Thanks for the encouragement. It could be a wet and slow start, but we’re

We're the same way. The Admiral works remotely. She can use her Verizon
Mi-Fi or her iPhone as a hot spot if Wi-Fi isn't available.
Last year when the boat was in Pensacola, we'd head over Wed or Thur
night. She'd work from the boat during the day while I played with minor

Take Five all week. We had to drop-off / pickup the kids everyday and with
club being 30 miles away from home we avoid the 120 miles per day commute.
Pretty fun to be here all week.
As for work,
Looking forward to seeing you at Ida Lewis YC.

I will make a correction as wellI used 1/4" flax on a one inch
diameter shaft.three strands and placed as Rich said, at a 120 deg.
of each other. Maybe that was why I could not get the packing nut to
thread with the three strands in all at oncebecause I used 1/4" flax
Good correction Robert.
I should have said, "... will drip once per
minute..." (phew, metric still gets me sometimes :)
And yeah, this guy does a great job of presenting boat chores information.

Best of luck to you and the guys; I wish I were going with you this year. I
really hope you can make it out of the Bay in less than two days this year :^)
And once you’re out, ignore the weather briefing and do the rhumb line…
Have a great race!

Great site on how to repack a traditional stuffing box.
Bev, as for the size of the packing material, it depends on the diameter

3/16" flax on a 1" diameter shaft. However, mine does not drip at the
rate anywhere near where
