Hi Jp,
It is easy to miss, as it can be somewhat confusing.
You see, it's held in August at Thetis Island, in
Canada, which is geographically speaking in her
Pacific South West. So you see how confusing this can be?
Glad to help clear things up :)

Hi Rick, if the iPod app doesn't work on the Pad, have you tried getting
the Pad to use the latest IOS it can handle. Try googling, sometimes can
give very useful results. Patrick

I've had 2 Raymarine products. Both were junk. The first product was 4000+
autopilot. On matter they or I did it would not steer a straight course. The
unit was rated for a 16000 lbs boat. It was installed on a Pearson 28, well
below the displacement limit. Product #2 is a st40 wind instrument.
Hi Tom, yes, I’m pretty sure I’ll see you at Flip Flop, but I’ll be on the Swan

Tim,
Great minds must think alike! I will be in the BVI's the same time you are in
Jamaica. I also wanted to go to the open house, and can only hope there will
be another in the future.

Andy, I really would like to see the facility, the new boats and hear you talk,
but not quite enough to cancel my vacation in Jamaica. I'd love to hear
feedback on how things look from those who do attend.

Suggest app NaturalReader text to speech. There are a whack of apps to do the
job.

Thanks Pierre for the lead on B&G instruments through BL Yachts in Quebec.
They have the B&G instrument package including wind, speed and depth for
$1,485.
If you purchase the package before April 6, B&G will give you a FREE second
display (value $525)
This is a GOOD deal
Best regards,
Bob
I was recently given an older iPad, upon which I will load the Active
Captain Companion for use while cruising. I have a handle on how to load
that app and navigation software onto the device.
I already have a couple of e-reader apps on the device, including the Nook
software, and will probably
Maybe a little. It'd be nice to talk to more than just my dog.

I have not used the Raymarine, so I can't compare. However, I did go the B&G
route last year with 3 Triton displays and a Zeus Touch 7 on Firewater last
year. I have found it very easy to use, very flexible and would recommend it
to anyone looking at instruments. No connection to either compa
The open Optometrist stores are not that uncommon, here in PA I could throw
up Shingle to sell glasses and be in business tomorrow. Guess you have to go
by reputation.
My father had the Coke glasses, so bad they would not take him in WWII.

Choose your areas and plan accordingly. Free is relative - cruising permits,

If I was making the purchase for my boat, I would go with the Raymarine. I
have found the quality and reliability to be very good and I really like
how intuitive they are to use. I used the new B&G stuff on a recent
delivery and was not terribly impressed with its ease of use. And I had to

Thanks for the laugh Wally. I know the coke bottles all too well being in
the same boat (football eyes, degenerating retinas from the strain). I've
had laser surgery on my right eye twice for 'pinholes' in my retina. When
asked I was told that "the surgery might help" so I told my ophthalmologist

For B&G canadian sources, you can try Marine Outfitter (Pride) in Kingston, and
maybe RadioWorld can do a special order, as they have other Navico product. Or
if the tax system works the same in both direction between Ontario and Quebec,
look at BLYacht.com (Boulet Lemelin in Quebec City, and
Hook close to the meca when you need a day to shower/ laundry take on fuel
and water and food right? You pay at these spots. Then the rest of the time
you drop hook in less traveled anchorages and no pay? Of is that not safe
with the bandits?

While this response has very little to do with selecting a depth sounder, it's
a solution for the old holes. A long time ago when I bought my boat it came
with round instruments. When they were no longer useful, I changed to square
instruments--these were also bulkhead mounted by my companionw
Steve - Marinas aren't cheap down here. They've figured out that
gringos will pay SanDiego prices, and electricity and water are
meteredand extra. And many good anchorages are now filled with mooring
balls, and even if you don't trust the mooring ball and use your own
hook, you pay to anchor.
