James,
I'm with Dennis on this one. The only knock against the external switches
is that if something in the bilge rolls under the switch, it could stick on
and drain your battery. I and many more have decided to live with this
risk.
Give me a shout offline (ie: ring me in the office) and we

I can't rate ACE high enough. Rate has not changed significantly, very flexible
with late haul out etc, and more importantly paid for the keel to be re-bed
even though it was pretty obvious there was no damage from striking Rick etc

Where you live is important on boat insurance. Down here in hurricane land,
BoatUS is off the charts, as are many other insurers.
BoatUS wanted close to 2K to insure my 1974 Bristol 30 with a $10,000 hull
value, while Progressive provides the same coverage for $742 on a 12-month
policy.

I agree with David -- it's definitely worth the couple of hundred $$$ a year to
go with BoatUS. I've had a few claims for various reasons over fifteen years
(most charter-related) that they covered quickly and fully, without complaint
and with no increase in premium. My 1979 Landfall 38 has an
My C&C 25 was wrecked in Hurricane Wilma and beached in a sensitive Florida
crocodile protection area on Key Biscayne. The rangers were hot on my trail,
needless to say. Progressive removed the wreck quickly, even though hundreds of
boats were wrecked all over South Florida, and had an $8K chec

I know two folks who lost their masts...with very different experiences. The
first unfortunate soul got nothing from the carrier while the second got a
replacement mast with no problems. Without further detail methinks they both
got what they paid for.

Sat on Yacht clubs anchorage committee for a few years and had a lot of
problems with those boats insured by Progressive. Went as far as recommending
to membership that they should be very careful in choosing them for boat
insurance. Boat US seems to do a good job and my experiece with them wh
My C&C 27 Mk 1 was washed into the parking lot in Hurricane Katrina and
was a total loss. At the time, I was insured by State Farm. Under the
policy, their obligation to remove the wreck was dollar limited and would
not have been sufficient to pay for the wreck removal had the State of

Progressive is about half the price of BoatUS and does not require a survey.
There is an upper limit to what they insure – maybe 20K – and they have a large
deductible for named storms, however.

I had been using Boat US for my previous boat. Also, they were the insurer for
my recently purchased 29 MKII with the PO. They sent me a quote for $13K less
in value and at a rate nearly twice what they had been charging the PO.
Nothing had changed the re boat. Still moored at the same locat
Danny,
I found Boat US prices to be way high too. At a boat show years ago, I spoke
with Tom Carroll at Total Dollar Insurance (based out of Port Washington, NY
where I grew up, assuming that I ever really grew up.) They got me a great
policy through Travelers and the claims process was amazingl
Okay so I have some quotes. Boat US is the highest and 2 times that of the
lowest. The lowest wants me to get the surveyor back out and Boat US just want
my money. Is Boat US insurance worth the extra money? Maybe just for the
convenience factor. I've been using them for the Oday 22 and, ha

Geez,
Here on Carlyle Lake we'd kill for a 115mil N-S. Our best run is a lap around
the lake for 15mi.
We do have fairly competitive racing though; although the numbers are
decreasing.
