Progressive is about half the price of BoatUS and does not require a survey. There is an upper limit to what they insure – maybe 20K – and they have a large deductible for named storms, however.

Also, they were the insurer for my recently purchased 29 MKII with the PO. They sent me a quote for $13K less in value and at a rate nearly twice what they had been charging the PO. Nothing had changed the re boat. Still moored at the same location and stored at the same location, sailed in same fashion in the same waters. Since I had the purchase survey already in hand, I went to State Farm, who insure my car and condo, and got coverage for $2K over the survey estimate and at a very reasonable annual rate when compared to what others in my club are paying for their boats. All State Farm asked was some minor corrections in safety areas - that I would have done anyway - that were mentioned in the survey. Boat US is the highest and 2 times that of the lowest. The lowest wants me to get the surveyor back out and Boat US just want my money. Is Boat US insurance worth the extra money? Maybe just for the convenience factor. I've been using them for the Oday 22 and, have never had a claim... Any thoughts?
