Just throwing my two cents in. I think the web interface limits yo to
viewing 100 messages at a time, so the volume you are talking about
would take a long time & you would still need to empty the trash.
I think filtering is going to be your best option whatever method you
choose to use. I would

I suggest you use the web interface
Select all mail from the left hand column
Select "all" in the box next to the Mail button and look for the line that
is just to the right of it that asks if you want to select the total number
of emails in your "A
