Hi Alex,
Thanks for the tip: it looks promising. Yesterday I took the NUC in to
Memory Express to get the hardware checked to I won't be able to follow the
link you sent for a few days.

BIOS is at a lower level and I have seen systems go from misbehaving and
intermittent to straight forward easy Linux installs. (with the latest
bios version)
