You can add a disk to sources.list & have synaptic read from it.

Your sources.list file would then need the line:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick main restricted universe
multiverse

What I'm looking for is a replacement /etc/apt/sources.list
that will let synaptic work fully.
A buddy speculated that the repositories would move rather than disappear
but I haven't been able to find them and not of the suggestions
offered have gotten me any closer.
Seems I must wait until u
After dozens of successful dual boots with Ubuntu and other
Debian-derived distros (3D!) I've encountered my first unbootable
machine tonight, with the little-loved error message "Missing
operating system".
I've got Windows 7 back now with the boot flag on the primary
partition device, but no grub
Just throwing this out there, but if you could find a Linux Format
disk...or similar from another magazine that might fill the void. I
think those would be limited to 32-bit though unless they included a
64-bit on it.

Okay.
If the package you want doesn't have a bunch of crazy dependencies,
you can pin it to an older repository. As 10.04 is an LTS version,
their repositories should still be available.
I had to do this for a friend who upgraded to Kubuntu 12.04 on his old

Thanks for the feedback. As I said, I use this routinely with Lubuntu
and Edubuntu. I am, in fact, using tethering now. The computer is too
old to have any USB 3 ports.
The tethering issue has taken back seat to gparted not allowing me to
move/resize the ntfs partition with Windows 7 on it.

When you plug in the phone, you should see a USB symbol in the

related to the fact that the mass storage device option has been removed
in favor of MTP and/or a Camera device connection. There are some
decent reasons for this move away from the traditional mass storage
