Okay. If the package you want doesn't have a bunch of crazy dependencies, you can pin it to an older repository. As 10.04 is an LTS version, their repositories should still be available.
I had to do this for a friend who upgraded to Kubuntu 12.04 on his old Dell box and had to pin X to the 11.10 release. The video card is getting long in the tooth and nvidia had not caught up with the change in X.
