There is a plugin for SylpheedClaws that enables use of clamav. I decided to
test it with no success. Before asking questions on SC mailing list, I have
to ask hire if something is wrong with my setup with clamav.

I still don't understand why you're using the gcc that runs in Linux
compatibility mode. On FreeBSD you should have gcc2.95 in /usr/bin/gcc, you
may also have gcc3 in /usr/local/bin/gcc3, depending on the packages you
installed.
Check:
a) What value do you have in the CC environment var
