There is a plugin for SylpheedClaws that enables use of clamav. I decided to
test it with no success. Before asking questions on SC mailing list, I have
to ask hire if something is wrong with my setup with clamav.

When I start clamd:

# /usr/local/sbin/clamd

I have no errors in /tmp/clamd.log. But action set in SC to move message to
folder "Virus" if virus is found does not work. If I cd to "Virus" folder,
and do:

$ clamscan file
1: ClamAV-Test-Signature FOUND

----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
Known viruses: 7768
Scanned directories: 0
Scanned files: 1
Infected files: 1
Data scanned: 0.00 Mb
I/O buffer size: 131072 bytes
Time: 1.043 sec (0 m 1 s)

so I got at least something working. Also Clamuko denies access to mentioned
file when I try to read it from SC.

My question is about /usr/local/sbin/clamd. In clamdoc.pdf:

"clamd recognizes the following commands:
- PING Check server s state. It should reply with PONG .
- RELOAD Reload the databases.
- QUIT Perform a clean exit.
- SCAN file/directory Scan a file or directory (recursively) with archive
support. A full path is required.
- RAWSCAN file/directory Scan a file or directory (recursively) with archive
support disabled. A full path is required."

Now, I was not able to get PONG! How do I issue PING (or any other above
mentioned) command? What is the syntax?
