can u check if you have the same errors like me last night?
For me it looks like there was an error connecting to the update
servers, an incomplete incremental update and an failed full download of
the main.cvd. therefor the clamd quits, cause it doesnt have any valid
definitions.

I'm using clamav-deamon with freshclam to scan incoming
emails on my mail-server*
After the last clamav-update in debian etch, clamav stops
working sometimes after freshclam updated the signatures.
In the log-file it reads like this:
