For me it appears that the width of the staff line that is printed after the
barline is almost exactly 1/72 inch.
Perhaps this helps.

I have trouble in installing Lilypond.
Will you please help me?
I downloaded and installed Lilypond as instructed on your website.
When I double-clicked the "test.ly", the Cygwin window appears,
but it does not generate PDF file nor DVI file.
Acrobat Reader sends "File not found" message.

Unfortunately, it's a bit tricky to install cygwin with LilyPond if you
don't have an ethernet connection. The setup.exe is just a pure
installation program that fetches a list of available packages from the
web and then downloads and installs the packages you have selected.
In order to run LilyPon

I have sometimes noticed this problem, but I rather think it's a
problem of Ghostview/gv. Restarting Ghostview usually helps as a
last resort. However, I've got the impression that if usually
happens when I switch window so quickly that the gv window comes
in focus before dvips has finished its job
