When I started using barcode labels I erased all tapes (with mt commands) and the wrote new bacula labes on them using "label barcode". also removed the old tapes from the catalog (or changed them to not recycle). if you want a mixed setup you can keep using "update slots scan", once the barcodes

Bacula will use the barcode labels as the label for the tape. The label of the tape and the barcode must match, or it will not work, in my exigence. I am using barcodes on all my tapes. I had to relabel all the tapes to match the barcodes... Once it is working though, it is a breeze to swap tapes
