Differentials are used to prevent having to piece together tons of
incrementals, but with a differential you are backing up every change
since the full backup every job. Incremental jobs only backup new data
since the last incremental or full.
Hope this clears things up.

Compression is handled by the FD, so you will find all the related
compression code there. However, you will also need to patch the DIR
and the SD to recognize the new compression. I was looking into this
before, and I probably will again, but the compression code isn't

If it matters to anyone, I use a PHP script as my mail program to

I think that LZMA would definitely be a nice addition to bacula (which
is used by the 7z format) to compress the data.

Bacula has no way to determine whether or not a blob of data is

I can't say for sure, but you could have a JobDef assigned to the
restore job configuration which contains a schedule. However, I
haven't ever heard of jobs just starting by themselves.

This is a limitation of bacula, in order to free up space you must
prune your volumes. The volume retention setting sets how long the
volumes will live in the database, but it is up to you to delete them.
If you need more space you can just prune them manually from the
console.

I wanted to point out that I experienced this problem with a windows
