Very useful questions. DIR and SD are on same backup server. We had
checked port access between systems but not within the backup server
itself. Solution turned out to be adding the second IP (private)
address to hosts.allow at the top, along with the other ALLOW ALL on

Default settings, but my setup is probably smaller than yours.
I usually start with default and only tune if needed: speaking of

That's what I did too: choose Oostgres because I know it better; I never

Mysql is known for "features" like inserting 0 in a NOT NULL column

The answer may partly come from how much RAM the system running the
database has. I've seen numerous preferences for postgres on this
mailing list, but I've personally found on my 8Gb RAM system, I get
better performance out of mysql. We backup about 130+ hosts,

Hi!
So, this is not the problem :)
Maybe you should check for network communication problems with some telnet
commands:
- from client (192.168.0.X) to bacula-sd (192.168.0.5): telnet on port 9103
- from client (192.168.0.X) to bacula-sd (1G network ip address): telnet on

My configuration include a different catalog for every client, every
catalog has its own MySql user and password.
This configuration works well, i only had to modify a little thing on
make_catalog_backup.pl at row 47:
