What is the best way to backup MySQL databases? I've got a few web servers that i'd like to backup, which rely heavily on MySQL for offering dynamic content. Should i just backup the "/var/lib/mysql/*" directly? Does that mean i have to shutdown the MySQL process during the backup? (which means

I have my tape streamer on the same scsi cable as my scanner. Once in a while my scanner fails such that it comes to a sudden halt right in the midst of the scan. When that happens I can hear the tape streamer starting to operate. In order not to confuse bacula with the tape position I then do

The Debian packages for the SD require the database component. It says that it has bscan and bcopy for recovery when Bacula's catalog is unavailable. So I guess in normal operation you won't need a database connection, but if you ever have to rebuild your database by reading the tapes you will. Ro
