Hi Robert,
I think the important distinction that you haven't grasped is that you can use
the same pool for multiple jobs/schedules/levels. ;0)
For instance you could just have One pool e.g. "Default" and have volumes
labeled in that pool then tell all of your jobs (WeeklyFull, DailyDifferenti
You can have multiple pools of tapes that use the same tape device;
there's not a problem with that. It just means you have to switch the
tape or have an autoloader do so.
I understand. I do this for the Weekly (Weekly pool) & Monthly (Monthly
pool) tape(s). These pools share the same tape dev
Hi Silas,
The "tapeinfo" command (I think it's part of the mtx package) is great
for figuring out which device is what; e.g.:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# tapeinfo -f /dev/sg0
Product Type: Medium Changer
Vendor ID: 'QUALSTAR'
Product ID: 'TLS-8222'
Revision: '2.15'
Attached Changer: No
Seria
Doh!!!
That was the problem. I did the initial configuration assuming that the changer
would be sg0 and set the permissions to be root:tape chmod 660
I banged my head against a wall for a while until I figured out that the
autoloader was not sg0 (Still not sure what devices are taking sg0 & sg1
Does the user "bacula", or the group "tape" have permission to access
/dev/sg3?
Thanks,
Thomas

Nope. Not possible. Volumes are members of pools, not vice versa.

OK, that's not going to work, because I would like to have multiple pools on
a single volume.
That's not a very big problem but it would have been nice. I can have the
catalog backup on the external harddisk without problems because a harddisk
can have multiple volumes unlike tape.
I also trie

So far bacula works fine for everything but controlling the autoloader. The
mtx-changer script works fine for controlling the autoloader so this is
puzzling.

Attila,
try it with
Label Format = "Full_Backup_${Client}-${Counter+}"
Counters are not autoincremented, you have to use + for that.

I can't seem to get bacula to do a full backup on a FreeBSD 5.4 server with
bacula 1.36.3, using a quantum SDLT-II 300/600 GB drive.
The drive when tested with btape passes all the tests fine.
I have the device configured as:

Name = SDLT-II
Description = "SDLT-II for FreeBSD"

Hello,
I want to restore a complete subtree of my file system. How can I do
this?
I get an error message when I type a directory name as the file to
restore. Even when I generate the sub tree into a file Bacula give
errors for each directory in this list. Hence it does not restore empty

Hi all,
I have one more small problem in running Bacula
smoothly:
acording to the documentation, in the Pool definition,
the Label Format variable should do his job and
increment the counter uutomaticaly for a "Vol" value;
for example "Vol-0001"- first volume,"Vol-0002"-the
second volume and so on.
With "Volume Use Duration" it works to get the backups on the same tape. But
I also want to have the catalog backup on the same tape as the backups from
client 1 & 2 (if that is possible) and I get an errror like this:
Marking Volume "Catalog001" in Error in catalog.
It then creates Volume "Cat
