I've got huge problems compiling alsa on debian 2.2.19
And i'm not finding anything in the archives (search broken)
./configure --with-isapnp=no --with-oss=no --with-cards=cs4232
--with-sequencer=yes
is not a problem (it was until i downloaded the kernelsources and copied
version.h to /usr/s

Just figured it out.
i need the kernel HEADERS. to compile. ch
I've managed to not install this right, (yes.. i'm a newbie =), i'm on a
fresh debian with kernel 2.2.19.. and that kernel is 3 years old!
All of the ./configure;make;make install works like a charm, the problem
arises when i do the modprobe stuff... i was just wondering.
is there any huge problem

I'm beginning to think 2.4.x to get alsa to party now...
(but then again, what do i know)

I'm not trying to insult you, but... You do know that it isn't enough to
raise the volume-sliders in alsamixer? You have to press "m" to unmute the
channels. I didn't get that =)

I had the wrong kernel-header pakage "installed" in /usr/src/linux

What rights does the devices have?
Maybe you've missed to set +rw(?) to the audio group?
(on my laptop i cheated and set 777 on the devices, ohwell ;)

You have configured alsa-xmms-plugin under your normal user aswell haven't
you?
root has his own .xmms (or equvalent) settings file... as every other user
has...

I've got a M-Audio Fast Track Pro (USB Interface).
There are some problems with it, not all functions can be used,

When i use the OSS driver for my Aztech Washington 16 ISA card i can't play
more than one sound source at a time. Can i do that with ALSA? It doesn't
matter if its mixed in hardware or software.

Running on 2.6.0-test3 and with otherwise pretty new software too
(please ask what you need to know, so that I don't need to paste 500

I have ALSA & OSS emulation compiled in the kernel, real OSS is not used.
So, here are some results:
-Apparently all OS
Problem is, when using envy24control, we see sound as it plays through an
audio player on the output bars, but don't hear anything. Like I said, im no
audio guy, but if the envy24control application shows activity when audio is
played, this means the audio IS indeed making it to the cards output po
