Hi I was alerted to this thread by Paul Winkler,
I have an SMP system with two cpus and an audiophile 24/96. I am running
a low latency kernel 2.4.18SMP and the Alsa0.9beta12 drivers, on a
highly modified originally Redhat 7.x system

I build from CVS.

Hi Takashi, the patch has indeed fixed the problem. Now I have
2.4.17 with SMP support, and ALSA drivers 0.9beta12 with the patch
and things seem to be working fine now :)
BTW, I wasn't able to get i2c.h to take the patch using the patch
command; maybe I was doing something wrong though. So I e

Hi Andrew,
could you try the following patch?
if it cures, i'll commit it to cvs.
ciao,
Takashi

I wasn't intending to criticize
Hello Parker,
Is your system really SMP (you really have 2 CPUs)
or are you just running an SMP kernel?

Hi,
I've got an MAudio Audiophile 2496 and use the native
alsa ice1712 driver to operate it. I purchased it for
the midi feature but in response to this thread, I
tested playing audio through it with jackd/ardour and
it did not crash. I didn't hook any speakers up but
there's no reason to suspect

There's a guy named Marco on the linux-audio-user list
who I believe has an Audiophile running with alsa on an smp system.
Marco, are you on this list? (sorry, can't find your email addr.)

I have recompiled the kernel, without SMP, and it seems to be working
now, so it seems that as long as I don't need SMP support I might be OK.
But
