Hi Takashi, the patch has indeed fixed the problem. Now I have 2.4.17 with SMP support, and ALSA drivers 0.9beta12 with the patch and things seem to be working fine now :)
BTW, I wasn't able to get i2c.h to take the patch using the patch command; maybe I was doing something wrong though.
