Thanks again,

I'll keep digging around, and reply with the solution when I figure it out.
Thanks again,

Well - quite an outcry against forums. I eventually
give up on lists because it's so difficult to go back
and retrieve an old message. There's a constant
stream of unrelated messages on different subjects.
Once a message has faded out of sight, no one answers
it. If you do not get an answer str
Is there any support for a forum as an alternative to
the user list, which is such a clumsy, fragmented and
disorganised format?
To whom should one address a proposal for a forum?

Thank you for the reply. I made aplay the player and
tried to play a .wav file. Nothing. There's no sound
from anything - system notifications, kalarm,
anything.
I have an alsa driver
temporarily.
On both systems, alsamixer shows all installed
components as unmuted.
Any ideas, anyone, please.

I recently installed a pre-built 2.6.2 Debian Kernel and am now having
troubles with my sound card. I am not sure if this is a known bug, or
there is a resolution out there, however after scouring I do believe it
may be.
With my 2.4 kernel I was usin the driver cs4232, and my soundcard
worked.

Get
y that one of the earlier drivers
would still work on it? I'm not particularly concerned
about the "5.1" sound -- I'd be happy with stereo out, and
mic/line-in working.
I'd be particularly interested to hear from anyone who's
tried it.
TIA,
Terry
