Thanks for the link to the GUI, I'll give that a look. I agree that it seems I shouldn't need Scarlett volume control (outside of what's on the box). The sound is clean going into the 2i2, and sounds good when I plug headphones into the 2i2. I've got the gain turned all the way down, too.
I'll keep digging around, and reply with the solution when I figure it out.
