generally, installing the next linux release helped. however, linux
2.6.25.1 doesn't change the picture.
the problem appears on a fresh x86_64 system but on

solution? Is it working like a usual soundcard? What is going through
the USB audio channel? AC3, S/PDIF? Does the alsa driver send raw data
or is it mangled up somehow (software encoded to 5.1, for example)
before being sent to the box?
