Hi
I'm blown away by the number of controls in alsamixer for this card, I'm able to
control the front, center and rear speaker volumes, but there doesnt seem to be a
control for the side speakers.
Also I'd be grateful for someone who could show me what voodoo magic I can put
into my ~/.asoundrc
alsa mixer controls without further programing.
It lacks a lot of soundcards models but you should add more supported
soundcards or adding a dumb general interface instead starting a yet
another mixer project.

I've been thinking about making something exactly like that. I've got coursework

I had another idea:
The alsamixer utility exposes a lot of controls to the end
user, and on a card that has a l
volume control having no effect,
only the PCM and Surround sliders change the volume.. this means
programs that try to change the volume (like xmms) have no effect.

without any distortion. On the asus site it says the onboard sound is
"ADI AD1980 SoundMAX 6-channel CODEC"
however using linux and the via82xx module the sound

I've followed your advice and here's my asoundrc so far:-

Hi
I understand how to create an alias for a soundcard that uses the dmix
plugin in my asoundrc file and that works. i also understand that if you
call it "default" a well written program that uses alsa will choose to
use it.
However many alsa programs dont do this (MPlayer is a good example)
