I recently bought a new KT600 based motherboard ( an ASUS A7V600) with
onboard sound... i've tried it in windows and the sound works fine
without any distortion. On the asus site it says the onboard sound is
"ADI AD1980 SoundMAX 6-channel CODEC"
however using linux and the via82xx module the sound comes out extremely
distorted even if i set all the volume bars in alsamixer to 50% or
lower... I dont quite understand what the 4 DXS bars right at the end
are for. only the first one has any effect, but all it does is change
the volume dramatically, e.g. 100% is normal sound but at 96% its gone
really quiet...but its still distorted. also the master volume slider
does nothing.

I'm running alsa version 0.9.6 from the gentoo ebuild
alsa-driver-0.9.6.ebuild, and i'm running kernel 2.4.22_pre2-gss
I've tried using "options snd-via82xx index=0 dxs_support=3" (and
dxs_support=2) but still no luck :(
