[Alsa-user] how do you get the output of one sound card to ALSO be the output of another?

I have two soundcards, I want the same output from soundcard 0 to play out of soundcard 1. how can i do this? here is my cards 0 [Audigy2]: Audigy2 - Audigy 2 [SB0240] Audigy 2 [SB0240] (rev.4, serial:0x10071102) at 0xcc80, irq 225 1 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel

Is there any way I can force all programs that output to ALSA to use the surround51 plug, rather than PCM or whatever the heck is happening otherwise?Reason being, I installed Mplayer which properly supports sending audio to various places and when I use the 5.1 plug, I get no sampling rate distor
