[Alsa-user] Sound configuration Gentoo kernel 2.6

Hello, I was wondering if you guys could help me, I have a ens1371 onboard sound system which works with KDE, XMMS ect. although there is no /dev/dsp or /dev/mixer is seems it's all in /dev/snd/ and the names arn't recognisable as dsp's or mixers ect. I fear this is gentoo's doing or kernel 2.

OK I am at wits end. I have a new motherboard (Abit NF7-S) with the nForce2 chipset and a set of Creative Labs DTT3500 speakers(these have their own decoder),.
