OK I am at wits end. I have a new motherboard (Abit NF7-S) with the nForce2 chipset and a set of Creative Labs DTT3500 speakers(these have their own decoder),. I am trying to use the SPDIF out only for all sound on my computer (kind of nice having only one thin cable between computer and speakers). I can get xmms with the alsa plugin to work (mp3's play fine). If I start aRts on KDE and test sound it works but no other system sounds will work. Quake 3--no sound, UT2003--no sound, basicly no sound from anything but xmms. Could someone please give me some settings to make this work, there are to many different settings and hard to understand commands, that I am having a hard time figuring out what I need to do.
