Thanks to all who responded. I think I'm making
progress, but I still haven't received any MIDI
events for my SoundBlaster Live! Value.
Question: Is it true that external MIDI is sent/
received by the MPU401 port on the card? Or is
MPU401 a specialized chip not on the SB Live?

I am installing alsa i got it from CVS after i installed one from a tarball...
it build ok and installed..
i rebuilt the kernel
now when i cat /proc/asound/version it says ":
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.5.12a.

I've read a few postings on here about recording through the S/PDIF
input on CMI8738-based cards, but I haven't seen any solutions. I've
been able to get recording working with my Midiman card by modifying the
cmipci.
