Hello guys,
I have one quick (hope easy) question about backing up Informix databases.
Is it safe to use two different backup tools independently to backup
Informix data?
I have Informix server, which was backed up using Ontape. Recently we
implemented TDP for Informix and started to use onbar. But
Hi Josef,
I just spoke with our informix admin, who was in the surroundings as I
received your mail, and he assured me there would be no problem doing
this : both programs have their own way to check when to initiate
backups, and no one will "steal" the other logs !
Hope this helped !
Cheers.

You have to make very certain that both level0|1|2's & logs are done by
the same, ie. either onbar or ontape.
ontape does backup logs together with the level0|1|2 (it says something
like 'this tape contains logs ### - ###'), but it does not mark the logs
as backed up so onbar won't miss out on the
Hi,
yes I know the readme, but I I have tested it with closed files, and backup
is more slow. And if there is no option snapshotcachelocation in dsm.opt I

a snapshot, but why does he want to do it, the file is not open or l
hi to all ...
i'm doing backup of /opt/tertio/prov/ directory with -subdir=yes option and
in inclexcl file i have written exclude.dir /opt/tertio/prov/log to not
backup this directory and subdirs and files, the problem is that this path
is always backed up, exclude.dir is obviously not working, h
Can you send the dsm.opt.
Are you doing the backup with the directory name in the command line? Or is the
scheduler performing the backup?

All,
I'm no C guru, so I was wondering if anyone had some source code
where the USEREXIT will write directly to the UNIX syslog via the 'logger'
call..
I've seen Bill Mansfield's example that writes to an output file, and
thought about FILEEXIT, but site standards dictate that the UNIX sys

The README is perhaps a little misleading in this regard, as it does not
entirely explain how the snapshot backup works. In fact, when using open
file support, the entire volume is backed up via the snapshot method, not
just open files. The idea is to capture the entire volume at a moment in
time (
I have the same problem. But I had Reclamation Threshold 100%. So even thought the
most tapes shows utilization 25 - 30 % the tapes are full. I think that is a reason.

Suppose I have all of my include and exclude statements without inclexcl
startement(s) in the client options file.
The exclude statements will be respected while my incremental backup is
running ? If yes reading from bottom of the option file ?
Thanks for all

Can someone help me understand Reclamation?
1. When this process is under-way, can backups still run?
2. What about restores?
Is it possible to configure this process to be interrupted?
Thank you

Keep in mind that TSM maintains a hierarchy of importance.
Restores are at the top of this hierarchy; a restore requiring a tape volume will stop
a process using that tape in order to get to it. Backups are at the bottom of this
hierarchy; a backup will wait (in MediaW mode) until all present

Anyone using the Client schedular to backup oracle databases/logs via the tdp? I
need/want to run the backup script from the user "oracle" and was curious if anyone is
doing this or if everyone is just using the crontab.

Hi Peter,
See capter 5.1.2 (page 49-50) in redbook SG24-7031-00 "Integrating Backup
Recovery and Media Services and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager on iSeries".
There you will find sample program (STRTSMSRV) to start TSM PASE Server in
Batch mode.
You can also download code (including the STRTSMSRV
Hi,
I am using TDP to backup database for oracle. I did successfully with backup

TSM server ? Could you show me the method to solve the problem ?

Yes, we can.
1. Yes, backups can still run.
2. Yes, restores can run. Restores have a priority over reclamation and this
will cause "ANR1089W Space reclamation terminated for volume 000150L1 - lock
conflict." and "ANR1171W Unable to move files associated with node ,

I am using crontab currently and not the client schedular.
