There have been some apars on DB2 where it does not calculate
the size estimate correctly. Have you checked with db2 to see
if there are any apars that might be causing this problem?
If not open a problem record with IBM. They can run tracing to
see what size estimate is being passed through th
We experienced the same problem. We found out that the files that were
being backed up were larger that the disk pool area which caused *sm
to go straight to tape. Watch your backups and check the file size.
This should start you in the right direction.
If you check the contents table you can get
free any unused space in the end.

We use no agent, backup code is included within DB2. The client Plateform
comes as R3DB2UDB in the node definit

Does the Management class point to the tapepool ? Have you activated the
policyset - if a managementclass was changed ?? Are the diskpool volumes
read-only ? Is disk storagepool r/o ?
