We have an AS/400 system we would like to backup with TSM.
We read that the OS/400 we have is downlevel so we have ordered and
scheduled an upgrade of the OS.

Hi Zoltan
It's correct that you need either BRMS or Robot/SAVE. I would recommend
using Robot/Save if you have the option, as the performance differences
between BRMS and Robot/save is huge.
The information that there will be an native AS/400 TSM client is only a
rumour. So I wouldnt re

As I understand it you need either BRMS or Robot/Save (a third part product) to
connect to TSM.
The problem with BRMS is that it treats TSM as a virtual tape drive, so a lot of TSM
facilities are bypassed. In particular BRMS can do incremental backups, but TSM can
only expire the resu

Does anyone has experience, i.e. right now, in using TSM for AS/400
backup's? Is there a simple way to do that and what is the performance?
Cheers,
Henk ten Have (heard bad stories about BMRS and ADSM V3
way on the particular
system we installed it on). BRMS will only backup the data not the system.
Performance in either case was not very good.

This is not true.
We are planning for a 4.2.1

Last week I heard there will be a AS/400 backupclient in TSM 5.1.
Is that true Tivoli guru's?

Henk ten Have.
Daniel,

Any idea what the IBM guys "did set up"? I don't suppose it's something
magic?
Cheers,
Henk ten Have.
Jon, thanks for your answers:

This doesn't look something you like to deal with...

HI TSM'ers:
My forte is TSM 3.7 running on AIX 4.3.3.
I have been asked by my management to install TSM 4.2 on an AS/400 system
with 3581 LTO drives.
I have looked on the Tivoli web site for this info, but want to verify the
following with you all:
1) Will TSM 4.2 will only work on OS/400 Vers
There is no download version... call you IBM rep... they get you the
software... and then you have 2 months to buy or send it back!
