Hi Zoltan,
even with devtype file, using pre-formatted volumes is recommended.

Hi,
try something with 'dsmc query backup -ina' you'll find the mc info included in
the output. This is usually really fast. As Wanda said, the client is the right
tool for this.

When I have to deal with a library that is too small, my favorite technique is
to create a separate tape storage pool for data that consists of big chunks and

Then use those parameters on move media to take those tapes out of

A temporary fix is to use 'move data' commands on filling tapes. If a
dataset does not span tapes it's a quick way to get more scratch tapes.

Ideally, TSM's provided DRM regimens would be followed to provide the

you can do your own handling, providing that proper steps are followed... A

Hi George,
The udev config files used by Lin_tape allow for tieing specific device names
to attributes of the tape drives like their serial number, or perhaps LUN
number.

Zoltan,
You may need to increase the queue depth for the individual disks
and/or the HBA attached to the disks.
Monitor both the server (iostat/vmstat) and the storage (EMC voodoo

You can just use "checkout libvolume library_name volume_name

We are running TSM 5.5.4.3 on RHEL 5.5. Our tape library is a 3584 with ALMS

Sounds like the patch cleans them up.

FWIW, we have been at 6.1.4.1 for a while and are no longer seeing the
errors. How would I check for the orphans?

Hi Everyone,
How can I verify that a particular management class is being used, in this

filesystem: /usr/grok/lun08? The full path of the data is:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I will design a couple of alternatives to discuss with the customer.

Thx for the clarification, been a while (we use AIX so the ODM takes
care of it all). To the point earlier FC devices changing order can be
remediated fairly easy.
