Hi All
I have a client with a new installation TSM 5.3.3 on Windows 2003 on
IBM x346 and 3583 with 3x LTO3 Drives.
I initially had some issues with the tape drives because one of them
had been connected to the internal SCSI bus and that not only was not
supported, it caused multiple tape errors.
Since we have to test the Dell server with Linux OS for TSM server, I have
listed questions.
What size of the Dell server's are folks deploying 6850 or 2850 ?
How many CPU ?
How much Memory ?
Thanks

I'm late on this one, but if you do install the Linux client on the
service console, then you should use the TSM 5.2 level Linux client. Here

Question related to collocation groups:
If 10 nodes are in one group will it only mount one tape even if no other
tape drives are busy?
If I have a directory disk pool that is cached will it still go to one tape
after migration or will collocation groups affect that? What I see leads me

We are going to be testing Apple Xserver raid disks array as the disks for

First of all, upgrade!
Second, to solve you problem, stop any tape activities;
audit library XXX checklabel=barcode => this will remove
this volume from the ITSM library inventory
checkin libv XXX search=bulk stat=priv checklabel=barc
Now, everything is back to norma
WE are running tsm 5.3.0.0 on AIX with 3485lib. Yesterday we had to open the
library to take out some of the Tapes because when we did checkout system
couldn't find them. By mistake we took out a volume FT0660 from the library.
now we want to checkin it in the library and it fail indicating that
Joni,
Have a look at the CONTENTS table, as that includes volume names, node
names and file names.
Another approach that I'd suggest you follow first: check for any volumes
or storage pools with access other than readwrite or readonly; any random
access disk storage pool volumes that are offline;
First you need to find out what filespace it is assigned to. If you
don't already know the filespace that it came from, this can be
identified by running the following select statement in the
administrative command line:
select filespace_name,hl_name,ll_name where node_name='NAME_OF_NODE' and
ll_
The onsite tape is probably is not readable. Check to see if you have any
volumes where access=unavailable.

How would I be able to tell what onsite tape the following file is located
on? /n03/data/penv/merc/restored/V110260.1.65s13m01.mi.16315970.Z
Someone is trying to restore this file and it keeps trying to go to the
offsite tape, but I do not see any reference to an onsite tape within the

I've run a 3584 for five (?) years now, and I just kind of ignore it. I
run my daily checkout in the morning, and the checkin in the late
afternoon, and it just chugs along the rest of the day. Once in a while
I'll check the usage statistics from the front panel, to see if I've

Nothing is too ridiculous when troubleshooting!
The time on on z/OS server is correct:
OCurrent Date and Time on the Server
04/19/2006 08:39:08
OUTC (GMT) Date/Time is: 04/19/2006 12:39:08
Last Noted Date/Time is: 04/19/2006 08:31
It happened again this morning, but this time one day earlier. No
shortcoming from the TSM server side. Why do I get all of the goofy
stuff? :^)
