I work for the Daewoo Motor Company in Korea.
We have a Compaq server ( O/S : Compaq Tru64 v5.1 ) and want to backup data by using
ADSM S/W(v3.1).
So, I tried to install ADSM client final sets for Digital Unix (IP21861) which I
downloaded in

If you know ahead of time when these "PIT" backups would be needed,
then create additional schedules to do your backups at these times.

purposes is the undocumented "enableallclients" directive.
Very usefull for troubleshooting...turn that on, then you should be able
to fire up a "dsmadmc -consolemode" session on the client end, to see

read the primary pool tape. In the event the primary tape is bad, you'll

You might be looking for different retention periods for these
point-in-time backups from the rest of your data. You can do this handily
with archives, or you can use multiple nodenames per system to manage
different incremental series. This has been discussed at length before,

* convert the ext3 filesystems back to ext2, or
* Upgrade to the 4.2.1 Linux client and convert the ext3 filesystems
to REiserfs, or
* Upgrade to the 4.2.1 Linux client and add to your dsm.sys file:

That was it. It was EXT3 filesystems on a Linux box.

We still get this message running 4.2.1.20 when we have the RSM service
disabled.
But our backups work fine.
RSM is backed up as part of the System Object, so you can exclude RSM when
doing a manual backup if you don't want the error message.

Yes the NSM's are the only IBM Boxes that we have but we have now started to
move forward
on Sun TSM Servers connected to 3494 Libraries. At the moment we have 5
NSM's and 4 TSM Sun Servers.
Admittedly the Sun Servers are a higher spec but the performance is
exceptional compared to the NSM.
On the slight chance someone has figured out a trick to get TSM to reprocess
its dsmserv.opt file and I missed hearing about it...
I've bumped up the # in my dsmserv.opt but getting a quiet moment on this
TSM server is like asking the sun to not shine for a while.

Now when you change your TSM servers ip address this does not affect the
clients, except your TSM servers client...

- use more symbolic nodenames that do not change when ip addresses change
- rename your TSM
We have a user who is trying to back up a Win/2000 machine and is receiving
"ANS1340E Exporting RSM Database Files Failed" during the backup. The
backup stops after that. This is a manual backup, not a scheduled
backup. Looking at the list archives, I noticed that past responses were

performance tremendously - our full DB backups took less than half the previous

The 'word' we got from Tivoli was that Netware 6 support would be availabe
in TSM 5.1 due out in April. Other client levels may work, but I would
expect the "but it isn't supported" line from Tivoli. I also found a similar

It's not very likely that TSM will allow you to restore NTFS data to EXT2
filespaces, nor the other way around. Even if both clients are using a FAT

I think using the win client sets the nodes filespaces to unicode enabled
within the tsm internal database. This causes your error. you can reset the
client only
using the "non documented" SET RECORD method. ( This manipulates the
internal db and should only be used on IBM/Tivoli advice.)

I have been having a look at using your select statement below and with
slight modifications I am getting the number of tapes that are needed for
each filespace for the particular node. I believe that the results brought
back by this select command are effectively any tape which has a fil
