What are you trying to restore? If you use the GUI you should be able to go to File, Logon and put in the server name of the server you want to restore FROM and it's ID and password, just like you were logging on to it. When you open up your Restore window you will see the server you want to rest

This may help a bit.. IBM eserver 1 950mhz cpu, redhat 7.1.. #1 - can't help you here.. I don't use cron to schedule backups. I run the scheduler daemon. #2 - Web gui works fine.. I don't get the grey box problem you describe. #3 - Dsmcad - I also get 4 processes so I'm guessing that's normal.

Have you tried looking at the devconfig.out file to see if it shows the tapes being removed. I have had a problem where it had empty slots but it would not take a tape. Some of the tapes ended up showing in two different slots. Once I made all the changes things worked like it should have. ---
