Hi All,
I'm a Unix guy who is getting seriously into backing up NT servers for the first time
and I'm trying to discover how to set up a user with the minimum necessary authorities
to run backup and restore on any given NT 4 box.
I've looked in the documentation and there is nothing other than
Hi
I want to install ADSM 3.1.0.8 on Solaris 5.8. Will this run properly?
I read in the client requirements that only Solaris 2.6/2.7 is supported.
Do I have to migrate to TSM 4.1 in order to backup a solaris 5.8 server?
Kindest regards,
Jerry Caupain

The saga continues so here's the update.
After much machination we cabled the drives directly to SCSI rather than the
through the SAN Data Gateway and voila, we were able to label and write to
and read from tapes. So apparently we have some compatibility issue between
the driver and the drives,
I dont think you can do a hot backup because it does no do transactions.
The 2 easiest ways would be:
- have the filesystem mirrored, quiesce the database then break the mirror.
- write-lock a table at a time and do a mysqldump.

For your current restore, I think you are pretty much stuck with the 266
mounts.
To make your life easier in the future, you could update the stgpool to
collocate=filespace, then it will try to keep separate tapes for each
filesystem.
The change would only apply to new volumes in that storage po

Hi everyone,
We have a customer with a Compaq Tru64 Cluster that they'd like to manage

customer tried to implement this anyway and discovered that the TSM client

Try running a 'allproc' trace on the client and only backup /tmp. Does this

Eric,
It is correct that the user exit does not get the currently active log. I'm
not sure that backing up the currently active log is useful. It may be in an
inconsistent state. This will result in the ROLLFORWARD DATABASE failing.
Which will require that you restore the database and rollforw

Make sure your recovery log has been correctly allocated on the volume.
Also, you need and entry in the dsmserv.dks configuration file. This file
will differ depending on your environment.

I too have a couple of tapes which fit this description. I contacted
support, and they informed me I need to run an audit db. I have not tried
this, as with year end processes I can not afford to be without my server

Hi Kelly ,
from LTO documentation :
The bar code format is:

. A start character (indicating the beginning of the label)
. A six-character volume label
. A two-character cartridge media-type identifier (L1), which identifies the
cartridge as an LTO cart

Hallo all !
I've the following task that I have to solve:
We will go from OS/390 R8 to OS/390 R10 and within this Upgrade of the
Operating-System
we also go from ADSM 3.1.2.50 to TSM 4.1
My questions are:
- Is there a good book which tells the exact steps for the Migration from V3.x
to V4.1?
For a complete set of db2 online backup (v5.2 on AIX) image, should the log
currently active also be backup.
Someone told me the user exit will not pick up the log currently in use, is
it right?
As a result, our setup is to run 'db2 backup online use adsm' & 'dsmc
archive' the logs with copygroup
