Unless I'm much mistaken, the ia64 architecture is not x86 compatible.
You'll need to get an ia64 version of VNC (there doesn't look to be one
available on the RealVNC site) or compile from source.

Re: mutliple user access of vncserver

2007-01-08 Thread Neal Hartgrove

Hello,

Free version of Real VNC does NOT support multiple users. You have to
buy either the personal or enterprise editions.

I use Tightvnc - which supports multiple users at the same time.

I hope you are using free edition 4.1.2, because of the security threat
issue discussed many months ago.

Is the personal edition or enterprise edition can allow multiple remote

RE: migrating from 3.3.7 to 4.0

2007-01-08 Thread James Weatherall
Hi Raju,

Do you mean "will currently running VNC servers be killed during the
installation"? If so, then the answer is normally "no" - existing sessions
will continue to run, although it's generally advisable to kill them &
create new sessions as soon as possible, to avoid confusion!

Cheers,

Jurn,

It sounds like you're running winvnc4.exe manually. To hide the VNC
Server's command prompt, you need to run it with the "-noconsole"
command-line argument.

mutliple user access of vncserver

2007-01-08 Thread Daniel Clarke
Well the slight problem i did have is that it resets itself, so as soon as
another person connects/reconnects, then everyone is pushed off, that might
have been the problem. i tried TightVNC, but i found it hard to setup on the
Server2000 i was working on at the time, so just used RealVNC, glad to help.

Daniel,

Thanks, that was something I investigated a while ago (aprox 2 years -
version 3 I think) and that is why I went with tightvnc. I was just not
aware of the ability of sharing a session with other users at the same
time was implemented in the free edition.

I might have to reconsider now.

Hi Wez,

The response to "rpm -q -a | grep vnc" gives only one item:

xorg-x11-Xvnc-6.9.0-48

Port 5900 is owned by the process "X".

Is there some other place I can look to find out which version
of vnc this is (and how to replace it with "yours")?

2007-01-08 Thread James Weatherall
Michael,

You should be able to run Xvnc to see the help output, and then scroll back
up in the terminal to find the VNC version information.

If not, you could contact the vendor who provided the package to obtain
version information.

To replace it with the VNC Free Edition 4.1.2 package, you should remove the
existing package, then install the standard VNC one.

Hi Wez,

I sent you this mail in response to your question (which VNC server).
I've told you. It's the one supplied via SuSE from XORG (in their
6.9.0 versions of X).

It runs automatically, I don't have to do anything to start it!

Is this an adequate answer? Is it the source of my problem? Where is
the RealVNC version obtainable and how does it co-exist with XORG?

RE: mutliple user access of vncserver

2007-01-08 Thread James Weatherall
Neal,

You are mistaken.

All VNC servers have supported access by multiple VNC Viewers at the same
time since version 3.

No version of VNC for Windows supports multiple concurrent logged on users
with separate desktops - that is functionality provided only by Microsoft's
Terminal Services, which can't be provided by third-party software. For
Unix platforms, this functionality is available by using Xvnc.

Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.

2007-01-08 Thread James Weatherall
Daniel,

Can you explain what you mean by "resets itself"? If you've configured VNC
Server to treat incoming connections as shared, or if your viewers are
configured to request to share the server, then you will be able to connect
multiple viewers to the server at the same time.

Cheers,

RE: mutliple user access of vncserver

2007-01-08 Thread James Weatherall
Dan,

You don't - you either set the server to ignore what viewers request and
always be shared, or you set the option in the viewers if you only want to
share the desktop sometimes.

Cheers,

Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.
