So what kind of file? Did you create it or did you download it from somewhere? From where? Can I download it as well? What version of Apache OpenOffice are you trying to open it with, or are you trying to open it with something else? If so, what software would that be? Anyway, the thing that sounds very strange to me (who didn't use Apache OpenOffice for years, but I use LibreOffice which should be quite similar in most aspects, I think), is that it asks for your user name. User name of what? To me it seems like your operating system (”win branch” = Windows?) is asking you for that, rather than Apache OpenOffice. If it was only asking for a password, the file could just be password protected. If it is, you really need the password. That's the point of having a file password protected in the first place, and as far as I remember, the password protection in Apache OpenOffice is very good, at least if the password itself is a good one (not 1234, your user name, your car brand or your favourite hockey team). R: Se l'utilizzo è gratuito perchè all'apertura chiede il numero della carta di credito senza protezioni ?
-Messaggio originale- Da: Alan B Inviato: venerdì 27 settembre 2024 23:09 A: users@openoffice.apache.org Oggetto: Re: open office file not working OpenOffice files that are protected by a password require that password before they can be opened. There is no workaround. A user name is not needed. If the file's password is not available then a password cracker can be used. This can take a VERY LONG TIME since the crackers are brute force (trying over and over again until a password works). The more that is known about the password, like how long it is, does it use upper and lower case letters, numbers, etc., the more the cracking time can be reduced by limiting the passwords the cracker has to try. If you are being prompted for both a user name and a password this sounds like a file that is owned by another user account and access is limited. Attempting to open the file with a different user account (depending on the system) would prompt for the authorized user account credentials before the file can be opened. In summary: - if being prompted for both user name and password then it is not OpenOffice asking for that information - if only being prompted for a password when attempting to open the file then find that password or use a brute force password cracker For info from OpenOffice about password protection you can also review here: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/AOO4_User_Guides/Getting_Started/Introducing_Apache_OpenOffice/Password_protection On Fri, Sep 27, 2024 at 4:22 PM sasol doornkop wrote: > Good day > > Kindly assist on open office file not working on win branch.
