OpenOffice files that are protected by a password require that password before
they can be opened. There is no workaround. A user name is not needed.
If the file's password is not available then a password cracker can be used.
This can take a VERY LONG TIME since the crackers are brute force (trying over
and over again until a password works). The more that is known about the
password, like how long it is, does it use upper and lower case letters,
numbers, etc., the more the cracking time can be reduced by limiting the
passwords the cracker has to try.
If you are being prompted for both a user name and a password this sounds like
a file that is owned by another user account and access is limited.
Attempting to open the file with a different user account (depending on the
system) would prompt for the authorized user account credentials before the
file can be opened.
In summary:
- if being prompted for both user name and password then it is not OpenOffice
asking for that information
- if only being prompted for a password when attempting to open the file then
find that password or use a brute force password cracker
