2018-09-21 Thread Eric
Even tho I've installed the driver proposed, my apt still looks for
version 340.106 of the driver:

dpkg: erro ao processar o arquivo
/var/cache/apt/archives/libgles1_1.0.0-2ubuntu2.2_amd64.deb (--unpack):

How can I remove it to be able to update my system?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1824661] [NEW] Nvidia issues with 19.04 and XPS 15 9750 GTX 1050 Ti Mobile

2019-04-13 Thread Eric
Public bug reported:

Hello. I am having issues consistently with this laptop and the Nvidia
drivers in 19.04. I have tested this on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie,
and Ubuntu MATE. This is with both the recommended 418 driver as well as
390. Today I tried installing the latest daily of Ubuntu MATE with the
proprietary driver option on my Dell XPS 15 9570 with Nvidia GP107M
(GeForce GRX 1050 Time Mobile). Boots to blank screen that flashes a
couple times. Can't get to tty. Reboot, editing grub to include
nomodeset. Boots to underscore character in the top left. I can get tty
at least. 418 driver is installed. Looking at logs but nothing seems
obvious. If there's anything I can do to help with this please let me
know. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1311767] [NEW] mouse detected but not tweakable

2014-04-23 Thread eric
Public bug reported:

If I plug my mouse, it works and if I do a lsusb it shows me that my
mouse is detected :

Bus 001 Device 010: ID 045e:0745 Microsoft Corp. Nano Transceiver v1.0

But going into the mouse parameters in unity control center doesn't show the
mouse at all.
It is impossible to change the speed or anything else as only the touchpad is
shown.

Not sure it is related to xserver-xorg, feel free to ask further

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1130938] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend [Dell XPS 15z]

2013-03-15 Thread eric
Same problem here with ACER 1830t and intel graphic card.
striking the backlight key brings back the screen on.
But playing with backlight is not working well at all (pressing once gives me
around 50 % backlight, twice 90% and 3 times 100%...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1390961] Re: bug at initializing a radeon graphics card on pci-e

2014-11-12 Thread Eric
Ok, So I fiddled with kernel boot parameters and enable_mtrr_cleanup
seems to do fix the MTRR mess like in:

$ cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-24-generic
root=UUID=35910738-c8fc-48e5-8b80-5c7766a720fc ro enable_mtrr_cleanup

So I'll close the bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397617] Re: brightness no more working on karmic (KMS)

2009-10-24 Thread Eric
Setting LCD brightness doesn't work on a MacBook Pro 1,1 using the
latest Karmic (updated this morning). XOrg recognizes the keys however
xbacklight reports "No outputs have backlight property" and
/sys/class/backlight/ is empty. Only way currently to control the
backlight for me is to install pommed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595177] Re: Screen Immediately Relocks Itself After Unlocking

2010-06-17 Thread Eric
as a workaround you need to go to
System -> Preference -> Screensaver
and disable
- Activate screensaver when computer idle
- Lock screen when screensaver is active

After this you do not encounter this issue anymore.
Bear in mind that you need to lock your workstation when you go to grab some
donuts in the kitchen :-)

Experiencing this on a Thinkpad T60 with ATI X1400 and the latest Ubuntu

(otherwise the computer does not respond).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969154] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 as a VMWare Workstation 8 guest

2012-05-02 Thread Eric R
I am using the final release of Ubuntu 12.04, 32-bit version. I used
Display to connect my second monitor. It correctly identified my second
display as a Visio 22" M220VA. It displays true 1080p (1920x1080)
resolution. But when I try to select this resolution for my montior, it
is not an available option, although I can scroll up into a blank area
when I suppose other resolutions should be listed. I try to select one
of the available lower resolutions and I instead get some out of range
error, or something like that. I know nothing about VMWare or Xorg. This
is just a standard installation of 12.04 LTS. I was able to use this
second monitor under 11.10. I have connected to this second monitor
through a VGA analog cable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 851612] Re: Logging out from a FUS session does not reliably return to VT7

2012-10-14 Thread Eric Erfanian
I am also experiencing this problem with lightdm 1.4 and lightdm-kde on
Arch Linux. Steps to reproduce:

1. Login as User1.
2. Start a new session as User2.
3. Switch back to User1.
4. Log out as User1.

5. Screen sits with blinking cursor. I can manually switch to User2
using FN + F8, or what-have-you.

Once I log out both users lightdm returns to the login screen as
expected. I am able to reproduce this bug every time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088016] [NEW] fglrx does not work with Radeon HD 6600M in Ubuntu 12.10 (EFI mode)

2012-12-08 Thread Eric Marsh
Public bug reported:

I am unable to get working video on my MacBook Pro 8,2 with a Radeon HD
6600M running Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzel). I attempted to install the
driver (2:9.000-0ubuntu3) in the following manner:

sudo apt-get --purge remove fglrx*
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdcccle
sudo aticonfig --initial -f

When I complete the last step part of the output is:
PowerXpress info: Diagnostic output from /usr/lib/fglrx/switchlibglx:
update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative
/usr/lib/fglrx/ld.so.conf because link group x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf is broken
update alternatives: warning: not replacing
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules with a link

When I rebooted, I was forced to use low-graphics mode. I expected to
boot into Unity with graphics. It is worth noting that this problem
occurs in EFI mode. When I boot in BIOS mode, Unity does start. However
there are still periodic xorg crashes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1761834] Re: Right-click doesn't work

2018-05-20 Thread Eric Stith
I just wanted to add two new notes to this bug report:

1. When I reported it, I was using a beta of 18.04, right-click didn't
work either by clicking on the area of the trackpad that is supposed to
be reserved for right-click or by using two-finger click. The former is
still true in the full released version, but the later seems to be
fixed, albeit, it is quite difficult and requires very precise timing
and finger spacing to achieve a right-click (I get a successful right-
click with two fingers about 20% of the time).

2. I have done a clean install on a different laptop with completely
different hardware, and I am seeing exactly the same problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772317] [NEW] Missing dependency libgtkmm for gparted

2018-05-20 Thread Eric Stith
Public bug reported:

I did a minimal install of Ubuntu 18.04. Initially, although apt
claimed that gparted was already installed, the binary didn't seem to
exist. I removed it and reinstalled it, but it seems to be missing
dependencies:

Running "sudo gparted":
/usr/sbin/gpartedbin: error while loading shared libraries: libgtkmm-2.4.so.1:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Running "sudo apt-get install -f":
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

I had to remove libgtkmm-2.4-1v5, which also removed gparted, and then
reinstall gparted, which seems to have correctly installed the
libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 library. I had to do something similar with
libatkmm-1.6-1v5, libpangomm-1.4-1v5, libglibmm-2.4-1v5.

Doing this seems to fix it:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libcairomm-1.0-1v5 libglibmm-2.4-1v5
libsigc++-2.0-0v5

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1796437] Re: [nouveau] Xorg crashes with assertion failure "key->initialized" in dixGetPrivateAddr() from dixLookupPrivate() from DRI2Authenticate()

2020-01-20 Thread Eric Adams
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1745345 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1745345

I run into this on Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 when trying to open GNOME
Settings. It dumps me to to the login screen. I just tried to use About
and it did the same thing. This is in a VirtualBox virtual machine if
that is relevant. Happy to provide additional detail if needed. Thanks
for looking into this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1866712] [NEW] Graphic glitches with Nvidia 440 on Dell XPS 15 9570

2020-03-09 Thread Eric Adams
Public bug reported:

I am experiencing intermittent graphical glitches. I couldn't find where
this had been reported before so please excuse the duplicate if this is
a known issue. I tried recording my screen to demonstrate what is
happening but, although I am seeing the issue on the desktop, it does
not show up in the video. I am using prime-select in intel mode.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-04-17 Thread Eric Detheridge
Running 14.04.2 with original X stack and Utopic kernel. updated fglrx-
updates, fglrx-amdcccle-updates to the versions in proposed and it
didn’t work, giving several errors;

first got an error due to this bug #1444336

simply selecting the packages for re-installation in synaptic allowed
them to install properly, but I then encountered more errors after
reboot;

fglrxinfo in terminal gives:

X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12

Trying to start Catalyst Control Center gives

There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux
edition. It could be caused by the following.

No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not
functioning properly.
Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or
configure using aticonfig.

Running aticonfig gives

Unable to open /etc/ati/control, please reinstall the driver.
aticonfig: No supported adapters detected

Finally, Boinc complains about No usable GPUs found.

Completely removing, restarting and reinstalling fglrx-updates and
related packages from proposed and running aticonfig --initial fixes all
of these errors. Thus I think there may be problems for people when they
try to update fglrx if this version hits the official repos.

Unfortunately I found another problem with Boinc

Boinc now thinks that the gpu doesnt support opencl, giving these
errors;

App version needs OpenCL but GPU doesn't support it

Application uses missing ATI GPU

Running clinfo seems to indicate that OpenCL is installed.

Boinc recognized it as OpenCl fine with the previous driver version.
Thus I think there is something wrong with the driver, specifically
OpenCL recognition.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1448865] [NEW] System doesn't boot with systemd, upstart mode is ok

2015-04-26 Thread Eric Fournie
Public bug reported:

After successful upgrade from kubuntu 14.10 to 15.04, the system hangs during
boot and never reaches the login screen. When grub menu entry "Ubuntu, with
Linux 3.19.0-15-generic (upstart)" is selected, the system boots normally.
It turns out that the /etc/fstab uuids for the / and swap partitions are not
correct. Once corrected and set to the values from /dev/disk/by-uuid/, booting
is possible using systemd.

fstab had been edited manually in the past but there were no problems
until the upgrade to 15.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1457650] [NEW] package fglrx-updates-core (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/clinfo', which is also in package clinfo 0.0.git20141116-g326318

2015-05-21 Thread Eric Detheridge
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 14.04.2 fglrx-updates-core failed to install when fglrx was being

overwrite /bin/clinfo, also present in the clinfo package.

had to use sudo dpkg -r clinfo to get fglrx-updates-core installed.

what I did is: removed all packages that end with '-utopic' (related to
LTSEnablementStack) and there we go - no more issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1490684] Re: Mouse cursor duplicated in dual screen setup

2015-09-23 Thread Eric Layton
Thanks for the response, and very clear instructions on how to upgrade
the BIOS under Linux. It's much appreciated.

I upgraded the BIOS:

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
1402
08/09/2012

The problem of a duplicate cursor getting stuck on the previous screen
is much less common now, but does still occur. Especially when moving
the cursor from one screen to the other relatively quickly.

I should probably clarify that, like the original bug, this didn't
happen in Ubuntu 12.04. I upgraded that to Ubuntu 14.04 and the problem
still wasn't there. Then I wiped the machine and installed Kubuntu
14.04 directly, and the problem manifested itself.

Thanks for your continued help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1490684] Re: Mouse cursor duplicated in dual screen setup

2015-09-23 Thread Eric Layton
Nevermind, it's not really any more or less frequent after the BIOS
upgrade.

One further thing I've observed is that the cursor duplication IS more
frequent if I have open windows near the edges of the screens where the
transfer is taking place. If it's just the desktop, then the cursor
gets stuck on occasion, but not as often.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1832903] [NEW] 18.04.2 login screen doesn't work if it uses 'wayland' and if video kernel driver is 'vgwfx' kernel driver

2019-06-14 Thread Eric Desrochers
Public bug reported:

After an upgrade from xenial to 18.04.2 OR 18.04.1 to 18.04.2 ,the login
screen doesn't work if 'Wayland' is in use (default) and if video kernel
driver is 'vgwfx'.

It looks like the login screen got stuck, doesn't exit, and doesn't
fallback to 'x11' by itself in case of failure.

Workaround:
- Access the machine via ssh or any other recovery approaches.
- Force the login screen to use x11:

File: /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
[daemon]
# Uncoment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg
WaylandEnable=false

I tried to reproduce the behaviour on my personal laptop, KVM guest, ...
without success.

So far it is only reproducible when the 'vgwfx' driver is in use in
combination with Wayland.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1832903] Re: 18.04.2 login screen doesn't work if it uses 'wayland' and if video kernel driver is 'vgwfx' kernel driver

2019-06-14 Thread Eric Desrochers
I was able to reproduce the problem with 4.15.0-51, but problem seems to
be gone using the hwe kernel 4.18.0-21-generic.

I'll do a kernel bisection and try to find the commit which fixes the situation.
I'll also ask another impacted user to confirm if v4.18 works fine too, to
double-check my testing.

Only when using v4.15, if I use the hwe kernel 4.18 on Bionic it passes.

I have strong belief this kernel fix to be a potential good candidate,
but I need to run a bisection to confirm my assumption :

commit 140bcaa23a1c37b694910424075a15e009120dbe

drm/vmwgfx: Fix black screen and device errors when running without
fbdev

When we are running without fbdev, transitioning from the login screen to
X or gnome-shell/wayland will cause a vt switch and the driver will disable
svga mode, losing all modesetting resources. However, the kms atomic state
does not reflect that and may think that a crtc is still turned on, which
will cause device errors when we try to bind an fb to the crtc, and the
screen will remain black.

Fix this by turning off all kms resources before disabling svga
mode.

Hello Axel,

i've now read the bug #813343.
I've made:
   apt-get remove --purge nvidia-current nvidia-settings
And like you, I've searched for ALL occurences of nvidia*[current|settings] and
removed them from the filesystem.
After reboot in Safe Mode:
   apt-get install nvidia-current

Twinview works only with Unity 2D and Gnome shell.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 894071] [NEW] Mouse pointer doesn't move with two fingers pressed on bcm5974 touchpad

2011-11-23 Thread Eric Williams
Public bug reported:

## Issue

- mouse pointer doesn't move with two fingers pressed (although right-
click is registered)

- cannot right-click 'n' drag with two-finger mouse button 2 emulation

- can't access context menus with right-click drag because mouse pointer
doesn't move

## Environment

- bcm5974-based touchpad

- Unity, Window Maker, and Xfce are all affected

## Further information

Attached is the syslog after enabling debugging in the bcm5974 driver,
and two-finger pressing and moving the two fingers around on the
trackpad. Notice that the driver registered movement (Y: and X: values
change with n:2, or two fingers down), but the pointer was not moving on
the screen.

Steps used:

sudo echo -n 9 > /sys/module/bcm5974/parameters/debug
sudo logger begin two-finger test
[move fingers around with two-fingers pressed]
sudo logger end two-finger test

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 894071] Re: Mouse pointer doesn't move with two fingers pressed on bcm5974 touchpad

2011-12-02 Thread Eric Williams
Trying to be clearer:

Two-finger scrolling works fine, because it's not a button press, just a
matter of lightly laying two fingers on the trackpad and moving them up
and down.

We're talking about a two-finger *click* here. When the trackpad is
clicked with two fingers, the pointer stops moving as long as the button
is down.

since changing to nvidia-331 (over a week now).

Symptoms: X hangs, reporting 100% CPU utilization. System is
responsive, can ssh in for diagnostics.

Diagnostic Summary: Profiled system, Xorg seems to get stuck in the
nvidia drivers. See notes below for more details.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308787] [NEW] The orange frame that indicates a resized window isn't going away

2014-04-16 Thread Eric Promislow
Public bug reported:

You know when you move a window towards the edge of the screen and Unity
decides to maximize it, and highlights it with an orange frame and
shadow to let you know that it's messing with you? This time the frame
didn't go away when I pulled the window away from the edge.

I know about "sticky edges" and that toggle has no effect on this behavior.
But the general behavior isn't what this
bug is about. It's that it looks like I'm going to have to log out to fix this.

ProblemType: Bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424263] Re: Broken dependencies

2015-03-05 Thread Eric Goulet
I had 14.04 then 14.04.1 - I moved forward with HWE. Steam is now
broken, but worked find before.

The suggestion in post #6 does not work for me:
sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-utopic:i386
libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic:i386
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libc6:i386 is already the newest version.
libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-utopic:i386 is already the newest version.
libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic:i386 is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  linux-headers-3.16.0-30 linux-headers-3.16.0-30-generic
  linux-image-3.16.0-30-generic linux-image-extra-3.16.0-30-generic
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424263] Re: Broken dependencies

2015-03-25 Thread Eric Goulet
I made the HWE upgrade on a second machine as described here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack

Steam broke on the second machine as well.

It wouldn't even let me install Steam. I had to remove, update, then
install again. Then, once installed, I encountered the "Couldn't set up
Steam data - please contact technical support" and fixed using what is
described here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/470436/steam-cannot-set-
up-steam-data

Maarten, what do I need to do once your script spawns the shell? just
startx and kill the process or is there more to it? I would be glad to
provide the information necessary.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316873] Re: Left mouse button stops working

2016-03-24 Thread Eric Broneer
I recently switched from an HDD to an SSD. I installed a fresh Ubuntu
14.04.4 on the SSD. Everything works just fine, except the left button
randomly stops working *only in the work space*. It responds in opened
applications, just not on the top bar or the left application launch
bar. Right click and scroll work fine.

Silly but useful workaround without having to exit fully from the
session : [Ctl][Alt][L] and retype your password.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1563706] [NEW] Left click not working in workspace only

2016-03-30 Thread Eric Broneer
Public bug reported:

Left click randomly stops working *only* in workspace, i.e. launch column and
top menu bar. Clicking otherwise completely normal on the desktop and running
applications.
Workaround: Change user and re-enter password. No need to log out of the
session: [Ctl][Alt]+[L] and retype password.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1563706] Re: Left click not working in workspace only

2016-03-31 Thread Eric Broneer
@penalvch
OK, tried running the latest daily-live xenial. Tried opening several Firefox
windows and tabs with my Google Drive documents and other windows. No problem
after more than 30 minutes working. Suspend mode didn't cause the bug on
xenial. I couldn't try hibernate, of course, since I'm on a live USB stick.
However, I can't tell if it would cause the same problem with all my personal
parameters set as they are now.
So far, so good. I'll let you know if I can reproduce the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 602809] Re: add Mouse Click Debounce Feature?

2016-07-03 Thread Eric Sandall
I'm still seeing this issue with a Logitech G700 with Linux Mint 17.3
(based on Ubuntu 14.04). I did not need Whitlock's patched evdev driver,
but adding Comment #4's xorg.conf work-around seems to have alleviated
this issue for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2013-07-05 Thread Eric Burkhardt
I realize that the last comment was almost a year ago, but apparently
this bug is still around. I have it with my Gateway LT31xx laptop, with
the same graphics card as the bug title. I was able to find a solution
to this problem. It requires a BIOS flash with a modified bios file that
enables certain options (North Bridge, IIRC).

The solution was based on this post -->
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...2#post11682072 .

I went to the thread they referenced
(http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer...ml#post6368072), and found the
modified bios file for my laptop, a Gateway LT31xx. The modified bios
file gives you an option to select only 'UMA' rather than
'UMA+Sideport'. I flashed this new bios file, after using the correct
phlash.exe command (found in the first post of the notebookreview
thread), and when I rebooted, there was the option. I changed that and
everything looks great --- no tearing at all. I don't know if I have 3D
compositing, but I do have xcompmgr running, so I think compositing
works fine.

I think this is the solution that everyone is looking for in regard to
the screen tearing problem. If you have a different laptop, I would
suggest searching the notebookreview thread to see if a modified bios
file was created for your specific model.
