Setting LCD brightness doesn't work on a MacBook Pro 1,1 using the latest Karmic (updated this morning). XOrg recognizes the keys however xbacklight reports "No outputs have backlight property" and /sys/class/backlight/ is empty. Only way currently to control the backlight for me is to install pommed.
