[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I downgraded to NVIDIA 275.43 and the problem is gone, so it appears to be a problem with recent Nvidia drivers. I don't know of a good way to downgrade though, I just removed nvidia-current and nvidia-current-updates, blacklisted nouveau module as well as plucked it from initramfs and installed the 275.43 nvidia drivers from nvidias homepage. Obviously that kind of hack won't survive a kernel upgrade, I just did it to check if an older nvidia driver would indeed alleviate the troubles. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 757486] Re: [NVIDIA] Severe visual distortion in Unity3D, Unity2D and Gnome Shell
Sorry for the delay but I think I've finally got to the bottom of this issue... It was a dieing graphics card. The problem only manifested when using 3D features which is why it started when I used Unity instead of gnome but the problem happened on all graphics accelerated functions, including when trying the same things in a dual boot windows install. Changing the graphics card has fixed all of the problems. Apparently this is fairly widely experienced problem with Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS cards. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3
Seconded what Dmitrijs says. Instead of -print >> sys.stderr, 'ERROR (dkms apport): both -m and -v are required' +print('ERROR (dkms apport): both -m and -v are required', file=sys.stderr) use something like sys.stderr.write('ERROR... required\n') (i. e. add the explicit \n at the end). This will work with both Python 2 and 3. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck jumping between screens
When it was happening to me, I believe an alternative was to login via SSH and kill the X11 desktop session (including the display driver). In my case it was usually quicker to login and just issue a reboot command. FWIW, after getting the latest NVidia video driver for my three-screen system and not running "synergy", I haven't had the issue in a long time. But, I'm pretty aggressive about keeping updated - I switched to 12.04-x64 about two weeks after release, previous releases were similar. I am also affected by this exact same issue 04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV44 [GeForce 7100 GS] (rev a1) This card is used to drive two LCD screens for standard gnome shell configuration in 12.04 when i try using the normal nvidia-current package or the one from the ppa (with version 302.17) my desktop freezes. Last few times this has locked the whole machine meaning i needed to pull the plug to get the system back up. I have purged the nvidia-current package and now have LCD mirroring on my screens (not very useful for me). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004983] Re: X.org segfaults when exiting window manager
I found this report while I was searching for a solution for a quite similar problem. I think it’s the same. For playing games I start an xserver from tty1 with (simplified) “xinit /usr/bin/xterm "$@" -- :1”. If I try to close the session by just typing “exit” in the xterm window of the second xserver the screen blanks immediately and even the LCD-backlight turns off. The only way out is Magic SysReq (R-E-I-S-U-B). The screen comes back to life after killing processes (I-Key) showing the white cursor. I attached the related lines of syslog. The lines with “XINIT-TEST” are generated by myself with the logger command. ** Attachment added: "syslog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1004983/+attachment/3194950/+files/syslog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004983 Title: X.org segfaults when exiting window manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1004983/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1014775] [NEW] Completely garbled video in X with nouveau with NV31M (Geforce FX Go5600)
Public bug reported: After upgrading to 12.04, the display become so garbled as to be unusable. I have to append the boot parameter "nomodeset" which apparently disables nouveau completely, so graphics are unaccelerated. This also happened with a LiveCD, which means Ubuntu does not work "out of box" with this old machine, an Acer Aspire 1705SMi. After GRUB and without nomodeset, the screen goes blank (dpms mode 3) for about 35 seconds before returning in unreadable-multi-colour-oil- slick form. I'm not sure if the problem is with the xserver driver or the kernel nouveau module, which seems incredibly outdated (I saw a 3 year old build date in a log?!) in the latest Ubuntu. Attaching dmesg and Xorg.0 (without nomodeset). uname etc: Linux galbadia 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 20:33:05 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=precise DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 12.04 LTS" relevant lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation NV31M [GeForce FX Go5600] [10de:031a] (rev a1) package version: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: Installed: 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2 Candidate: 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2 linux-image-3.2.0-25-generic: Installed: 3.2.0-25.40 Candidate: 3.2.0-25.40 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: precise regression-release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1014775 Title: Completely garbled video in X with nouveau with NV31M (Geforce FX Go5600) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1014775/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Ok, so as an additional piece of info the issue happens as well on a fedora 17 liveCD so it's not an Ubuntu patch or an issue specific to a distro -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985065 Title: Can't use fr/oss keyboard layout by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/985065/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777882] Re: xmodmap not honored
I can confirm this problem too on precise XUbuntu (12.04), 32bit edition. I tried to remove the lock from the caps lock, i.e. to behave it as a normal shift. With xubuntu 10.10 I had the following working solution: clear Lock add shift = Caps_Lock After the update to precise pangolin 12.04 on the same notebook this doesn't work anymore. I had to change the entries in .Xmodmap to: remove Lock = Caps_Lock keysym Caps_Lock = Shift_L add Shift = Shift_L -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777882 Title: xmodmap not honored To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/777882/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777882] Re: xmodmap not honored
After reading the previous comments I come to the conclusion that a working solution needs a redefinition of the keycode. Each of the working solutions have one of the following lines in it: keycode 66 = Control_L keysym Caps_Lock = ISO_Level3_Shift keycode 66 = keysym Caps_Lock = Shift_L -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777882 Title: xmodmap not honored To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/777882/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

At same time is happening in many cases that fonts are not readable anymore and pictures have some glitches... for example this page for me looks like this (attachment) ... and problem persist until computer freeze... if i restart everything is normal again... in log files is nothing special about this problem... but i have to admit that computer is barely usable with this problem because you never know when it will freeze and when fonts will get unreadable again... what can we do about it? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)
I'm having the same problem with an old DELL Inspiron 1420 I got running Debian, It is reported on: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=663649 The video card is listed as: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c) The TV output worked fine until some years ago when it went black and white and a few releases later video was gone. I checked on the sources of linux 3.2 which I'm currently running (Debian unstable) and this patch is there (line 1313). The TV output only works when the TV is plugged at start up (when I turn on the laptop) but the output is on black & white, no color. If I plug the TV after the laptop is running it is not detected. Any clues on what is wrong? maybe I need a module option or something like that. Thanks. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #663649 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=663649 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763688 Title: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/763688/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
