Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Can't connect to foreign mobile network

Hello

Could it be just because your mobile provider didn't activate the travel
option ??

Hello,

I have had the Ubuntu phone (BQ E4.5) for some time, I lately travelled
to New York and found out it didn't connect to the mobile network, not
even GSM. At that time I thought it was a frequency issue, but right now
I am in Portugal and the frequency is the same here as my home country
(Netherlands).
For some reason the phone doesn't see or recognize the other providers
networks.
My own provider is T-Mobile (NL), then when I just rebooted the Mobile
settings => Provider shows 3 available networks, after a few seconds
they disappear and there is only the choice for "Automatic".
The spinning icon keeps spinning for ever and there is no way I can call
or text outside my own country.

Is there any way this can be solved? Or do I have to wait for an upgrade?

Thanks,

Frans

Could it be related to this bug?

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] The problem with "no background processing for apps"

2015-10-02 Thread Yann
If I can add my insight ... I think some applications (not all) should
be able to run on background like Facebook for example ... everybody has
Facebook Messenger on other platforms, and they write messages only
through this program. The problem is that we don't have any Facebook
notification (or at least i don't, and yet i have activated the FB
notifications in settings), and as long as we don't check the webpage,
we don't know. Maybe there is a way to have notifications only for
private messages ??

I don't know, i am not a developer, just an user.

To be fair, that really is an outcome of ignoring all those use cases
for years now. I totally understand the frustration...

It's not that people haven't come up with use cases since two years
already. Unless the subject of the email is similar to this one, there
weren't even replies to those mails, except other community people
saying that it's not possible due to the chosen lifecycle approach.

I think that for this case, as well as the Dekko example mentioned at
the beginning of the thread, are not good use cases for asking apps to
be able to run in the background.
The reason is that I want to get e-mail and Facebook notifications
regardless of whether the respective application is running or not. So,
at least for these cases some kind of system service must be used. Maybe
we don't have it right now, but that's the way to go IMHO.

I still believe that background processing is something we'll have to
allow in some cases (especially for navigation apps), but I'm also
against allowing any app to continue running in the background.

Checked it, then installed camera app.

A busy day today. Some of you already saw the announcement regarding the

but most possibly the final release date will stay the same.

An important information for rc-proposed users: the channels will have
several new images published today, some actually going 'backwards in
time'. This means that rc-proposed users, if upgrading instantly, might
end up with an image with older contents. The reason for that is that we
are currently using the rc-proposed channel for building our OTA-6+ and
OTA-7 images from snapshots. Remember: this is the risk of using the
-proposed channels - there is no guarantee of the channel staying safe.
All in all we apologise for the inconvenience - we will build a new,
normal image in the rc-proposed channel as soon as possible.

That's one of the reasons why we are recommending the stable channel for
everyone always.

be an additional update as we modified a small thing in the device

[Ubuntu-phone] Webapp crashes

2016-11-06 Thread Yann Suire
It's been a bug I've been trying to report since OTA-11 but nothing seems to be
done, although I can't believe I'm the only one affected.

When I open a new tab in a webapp (let's say when I open a link in the Facebook
webapp), at the moment I close it, the webapp crashes 8 times over 10. I've
reseted my BQ 4.5 to see if it was a problem due to a program but the bug is
still here.

Will something be done about it ?

That would be nice, I'm wondering how easy it will be for you to get
your changes into the core app.

I've proposed a generic API for 3rd-party solutions and developers to
easily plug in into core functionality. Maybe it's a good idea to jump
right into a discussion here. There will be more attempts like yours
from more developers - that mostly vanish given the barriers we have
today.

- https://bugs.launchpad.net/qtubuntu/+bug/1627747 (Please, everyone,
vote "Yes, it affects me" if you care about this idea!)

Ubuntu Touch could be a truly open platform, easy to extend, yet still
beautiful and solid. Better than other platforms, with the user in
mind - not the profit in the first place.

Also, I'd love to hear some feedback from Canonical about this. It
won't be possible without them.

[Ubuntu-phone] Support dropping ?

2016-12-07 Thread Yann Suire
Hi

I am wondering - and I might not be alone - if the support is not slowly
dropping for Ubuntu Touch. The updates are delayed more and more, we were meant
to receive OTA-14 on december 5th or 6th, nothing happened and we have no
announcement about it (and this date was already a result of a delay)

All I want to know is if Canonical still believes in its mobile OS future ? We
have to notice that, as far as I know, there is no device still on sale, except
for the M10.

I am not criticizing, I just want to know if I can still count on Ubuntu Touch
as an evolutive OS or if I should switch on Android.

Thank you, and I sincerely hope Ubuntu Touch will last for a long time. --

[Ubuntu-phone] Help needed

2016-12-09 Thread Yann Suire
Hi

I think my phone was just stolen. Is there any way I could find it ?? The
localization is on.

Thank you if you have any tip to help. My phone was an Aquaris e.4.5 Ubuntu
edition.

[Ubuntu-phone] RE : Re: Ubuntu Touch OTA-14 released

2017-01-10 Thread Yann Suire
I think this is only the consequence of not having anyone from Canonical
expressing what was planned. When you let others communicate for you, you have
to expect some backfire.

The mails never actually said that there would not be an OTA-15, and the
fact that the system is not snap based does not stop the development of
Unity8 etc... so there is still a chance seeing another few updates,
before the snap migration

Also the Android layer may yet get updated. I think its simply that
Canonical genuinely do not know if it will be possible to upgrade old
devices when the time comes.

As far as I know: no, and no.
But I think you can run Ubuntu Phone apps on Ubuntu Desktop to test them.

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] powerd and Class 0 SMS

2013-06-05 Thread Yann Brelière
Hi, I've read you can send flash SMS (class 0 SMS) with an app like "iPhone
Delivery SMS" on a jailbroken iPhone, or ZeroSMS on an Android with
CyanogenMod (http://stackoverflow.com/a/12873325/358532).

About the interface, I've read somewhere that iphone's UI only displays it,
without offering to save it in the SMS inbox, which has led to some
phishing (as it displays like a native notification, with no clue that it's
an SMS, and no way to know the sender). Sorry, it was in French (
http://skyduino.wordpress.com/2012/08/16/sms-classe-0-un-bon-moyen-de-faire-peur-a-vos-amis/
).

You can try with http://page2rss.com, if there is a page with the mail
archives.
