[Bug 1786060] [NEW] grub installation always fails .
Public bug reported: I have a PC with 1Tera hard disk and used to work on windows 10 .. 2 days ago I tried to install Ubuntu using USB ( i tried FAT32 and NTFS Modes .. I don't actually know what they mean but tried both as grub always fails to get installed ) .. I didn't change any settings at this point .. I used my C partition (100 GB) to install Ubuntu on it by dividing it to 10GB swap and 90GB as ext4 root ... my problem started when a warning appeared asking me if i want to force UEFI Installtion and i choosed "continue in UEFI mode" then the i had this error " 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target/. without the GRUB Boot loader, the installed system will not boot. " i cancelled installtion and tried another one but this time i choosed "Go back" rather than continue in UEFI Mode .. and i got another error that grub installtion failed .. i even changed UEFI Mode to Legacy mode and the same issue happened again :) i don't understand what i'm doing but i had to try :D ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: ubiquity 2.21.63.4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.10.0-28.32~16.04.2-generic 4.10.17 Uname: Linux 4.10.0-28-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.10 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.376.2 Date: Wed Aug 8 17:09:08 2018 InstallCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz.efi file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed cdrom-detect/try-usb=true noprompt floppy.allowed_drive_mask=0 ignore_uuid boot=casper only-ubiquity quiet splash --- LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20170801) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SourcePackage: grub-installer UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug ubiquity-2.21.63.4 ubuntu xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1786060 Title: grub installation always fails . [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5
Can't log out with wily-proposed update. The update may have a problem with gdm(I am using Ubuntu GNOME 15.10). Fedora 22 had the same problem with gdm but then they solved it by applying a different patch or disabling SELinux. This can help: https://bluehatrecord.wordpress.com/2015/09/17 /installing-the-proprietary-amd-catalyst-15-9-fglrx-15-201-driver-on- fedora-22-with-linux-kernel-4-1-6/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1493888 Title: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1493888/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 607796] Re: Launcher, Window management - Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application
Will this land in 13.10? It must not be that hard. This bug should have been fixed already. Unity launcher can perceive a file you are trying to drag and drop from a nautilus window. We can drag&drop a file to the trash icon, and it works. This bug makes Unity useless. If we want to drag&drop a file from Archieve Manager to desktop, we have to make all windows minimized or to open the Desktop directory in a nautilus window, why? As Pablo Almeida wrote, this must be an easy fix, obviously. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607796 Title: Launcher, Window management - Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/607796/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 607796] Re: Launcher, Window management - Dragging and holding a selection over an entry in the Launcher should spread out windows belonging to that application
@johnlea ; as said above, @pabloalmeidaff9 wants a confirmation to start trying to fix this bug. I stated I agreed with him, giving some additional information. I think, the information I gave about the trash icon would be helpful for someone who will try to fix it. [Bug 1032276] Re: [nvidia] Graphics freeze when I close or minimize a window
Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS it happens if i disable Desktop Item like so: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false i have an updated system, my specs are Acer 4830tg laptop with discrete Nvidia Optimus technology, but the bug happens when i'm using integrated graphics as well. each time i minimize or close a window it freezes, maybe i can come up with a more comprehensize bug report? but how do i debug the segfault of Nautilus? btw, it got fixed when i re-enabled Desktop icons: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons true I think Arty's comment has some merit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1032276 Title: [nvidia] Graphics freeze when I close or minimize a window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1032276/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2092944] [NEW] System fails to boot with Linux kernel 6.12.7 (stuck on manufacturer logo screen)
Public bug reported: Bug Description Issue: After upgrading to Linux kernel 6.12.7, my system does not boot properly. It gets stuck at the manufacturer’s logo screen (ASUS) and does not proceed to the login screen or desktop environment. Steps to Reproduce: Install and build Linux kernel version 6.12.7 from the source. Reboot the system. Observe that the boot process halts at the manufacturer logo screen. What I Expected: The system should boot successfully into kernel 6.12.7. What Happened Instead: The system halts at the ASUS logo screen and does not proceed further. The issue does not occur when booting into a stable kernel (e.g., 6.8.0-51-generic).
