2009-06-28 Thread Gianluca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

andato tutto bene.
Can you help me?

Grazie mille, ci provo subito. Mi sa che ho sbagliato con la segnalazione
perchè non è relativa a firefox, in tal caso mi scuso, comunque grazie
ancora a tutti coloro che aiutano gli utenti windows, come me, a capire
linux, che è proprio forte.
Ciao.

[Bug 156730] Re: nvidia-settings package cannot be installed along with nvidia-glx-legacy

2007-10-29 Thread gianluca
The problem is that the package nvidia-glx-legacy PROVIDES nvidia-glx,
so it cannot be installed alongside nvidia-settings. The simplest
solution would be to modify the nvidia-glx-legacy package so that it
does not provide nvidia-glx anymore. I don't know if this may create
other kind of problems.

The best solution would be to rename the current nvidia-glx package to
nvidia-glx-current (or nvidia-glx-stable), and live nvidia-glx has a
meta-package provided by all the NVIDIA drivers. In this way, nvidia-
settings could be made to conflict only with nvidia-glx-stable and
nvidia-glx-new.

2007-05-26 Thread gianluca
I get the same behavior. Actually, the first issue is fully discussed
in bug 72262, and I suspect that the second issue is due to the same
reason (compiling OO with FSF java instead of Sun's Java). If this is
the case, it seems will be fixed with the upcoming release of openjdk 7.

I have been told that it is a bug with this release, but again it does not work
with the 7.10 either.
I suppose that it is a hardware-related issue.

Thanks for the attention,
Gianluca.

[Bug 133219] mtink/ttink loops forever

2007-08-17 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mtink

I have an Espon Stylus C42UX, and I would like to use mtink or ttink to
check the ink level or perform some maintenance tasks. However, while
they work in an old Breezy Badger, both of them just get stuck in my new
laptop with Feisty Fawn. For example, the command

ttink -d /dev/usblp0 -s

just loops forever without giving back any answer. Using another command
instead of -s (for example -n) gives the same result. The behavior is
the same if I run the program as root, or with mtink instead of ttink.

Please note that the printer actually works, and I am also able to
recover ink level status (and probably perform other tasks) with the
package "escputil".

I thought it was the same under kubuntu 7.04 but it is not.

I'm attaching the files as output of dmesg and lsusb -v.

btw, I have also tried to plug the device on the laptop of a friend with
kubuntu 7.10 installed and it failed but in this case I do not have the
corresponding output.

[Bug 164063] visualization problem of kpdf with A4 landscape

2007-11-20 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kpdf

Hi,

I have a visualization problem with KPDF (both under kubuntu 7.04 and
kubuntu 7.10) when producing presentation in latex with the package
prosper.

The document is cut on the right (I attach a printscreen). This happens
also in full screen. It happens both with pdf created in WinXP and Linux
and the documents are correctly seen under WinXp Acrobat Reader).

Somewhere I read that this problem is common to all A4 landscape pdf
documents (that what prosper produces) but I'm not able to find this
post anymore.

Is it a bug?

Thanks,
g.

[Bug 495790] [NEW] cover art plugin partially working

2009-12-12 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm not sure it is really a new one, but looking at the bugs list there
was always something different the version or slightly the description.
So, if it is a duplication, sorry.

Ubuntu 9.04
Rhythmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4
Cover Art plugin

1) The cover fetching is not working, the "searching..." message stays
forever. However, the "drop" option is fine.

2) The configure button is not available (not highlighted), I do not
know if this is normal.

Two additional features that might be really useful for next release
(and this is probably the wrong place where write them):

a) the possibility to fetch covers for songs not currently played

b) the possibility to embed the cover into the mp3 (as easytag allows)

thanks for your work
best

[Bug 561733] [NEW] stuttering audio in alex4

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alex4

I tried to solve the audio problem reported here:

After, i launched alex4 and the audio was working but it was really stuttering

changing the vsync value from 1 to 0

I had a very similar problem (with bionic). I was able to upgrade to
FreeIPA 4.3.1 by installing version 3.36.1 of the package libnss3, from
the cosmic repositories. There is a bug in the version 3.35 distributed
with bionic (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1568271)
which prevents upgrades (and not only... installing a replica IPA server
was also failing for me).

[Bug 1769485] Re: freeipa install server fails - cannot start apache server with SSL

2018-05-18 Thread gianluca
I made some progress. The problem is that the script /usr/lib/ipa/ipa-
httpd-pwdreader, which reads the passphrase of the SSL key on behalf of
Apache, checks that the hostname passed by Apache has the same value of
the $HOSTNAME environment variable. In my case, the two are different:
Apache uses the full qualified name "ipa.labeconomia.unich.it", while
$HOSTNAME contains only "ipa". I wonder why other people do not have the
same problem.

I temporary solved the problem with the command 'hostname
ipa.labeconomia.unich.it', but this is only a partial solution, since
after the reboot $HOSTNAME is back to "ipa" and Apache does not start. I
tried to change '/etc/hostname' with the FQDN, but without success: the
file get changed back to "ipa" after a reboot.

I could change the ipa-httpd-pwdreader to avoid this check, but I
suspect that the $HOSTNAME variable could be used elsewhere, so I would
really change my /etc/hostname with the FQDN, like I have in my Fedora
and CentOS boxes.

[Bug 1769485] Re: freeipa install server fails - cannot start apache server with SSL

2018-05-19 Thread gianluca
I was able to permanently change the host name with "hosnamectl --set-
hostname". Nonetheless, I still thinks there is a bug here, because the
Ubuntu 18.04 installer only allows me to set a unqualified host name,
while "ipa-server-install" insists on a FQDN, and the two do not
matches.

[Bug 1769485] Re: freeipa install server fails - cannot start apache server with SSL

2018-05-19 Thread gianluca
I realized now that "hostnamectl set-hostname" is not deterministic.
Most of the times, the new hostname is lost after reboot, sometimes,
without any apparent reason, it is preserved. The problem is that I
installed Ubuntu 18.04 with the Live image, which has some peculiarities
(see https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2390785). I will
reinstall with the alternate ISO and see what happens.

I tried with the Alternate ISO. The problem still occurs, but now I can
change the hostname to my fully qualified domain name with hostnamectl
in a reliable way. Still, ipa-server-install should work with a simple
hostname, since this is the standard for Ubuntu sysems.

[Bug 1772205] [NEW] freeipa install does not correctly setup krb5-admin-server

2018-05-19 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 18.04, ipa-server-install does not correctly configures krb5
-admin-server. Therefore, the kadmin server does not start. The problem
is that the krb5-admin-server service needs the file
/etc/krb5kdc/kadm5.acl. This file may be empty, but it should exists,
otherwise the server does not start. However, the krb5-admin-server does
not contain such a file, nor the ipa-server-install command creates it
during its execution.

Note this was different in Ubuntu 16.04, where krb5-admin-server used to
start even without the ACL file.

[Bug 1627371] Re: Timing problems with FreeIPA installation

2018-05-21 Thread gianluca
I was also affected by this problem, which I solved by adding extra RAM
and cores. However, in some cases, when working with virtual machines,
this problem might be exacerbated by the fact that VMs are much slower
in collecting entropy with respect to real hardware. The low entropy
slows down /dev/random, which may cause a sensible delay for
cryptographic software (https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2017/10/05
/entropy-rhel-based-cloud-instances/).

In one of my old installations of FreeIPA, the kadmin server used to
take several minutes to start. I solved this problem installing a daemon
for generating entropy ("haveged", in my case). With haveged, the same
daemon which used to take minutes, was starting in a fraction of a
second.

[Bug 1772405] [NEW] freeipa dns install does not correctly configure reverse zones due to systemd-resolved

2018-05-21 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 18.04, ipa-dns-intall (or ipa-server-install when asking to
configure BIND) does not create reverse DNS zones for my domain. Note
that I already fixed (or more correctly, circumvented) other bugs
involving BIND, such as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipa/+bug/1769440.

The problem seems due to the presence of systemd-resolved. When ipa-dns-
install valuates whether to create a reverse DNS zone, it tries to use
the local DNS for resolving the IP address of the server. When you want
to install BIND alongside IPA, this normally fails, and the installer
knows he needs to configure an appropriate reverse zone. But when
systemd-resolved is active, it takes the role of local DNS and answers
this query: therefore, the installer thinks a reverse DNS zone is
already present.

To fix this problem I had to perform the following steps before calling
ipa-dns-install (or ipa-server-install):
1) stop systemd-resolved with "systemctl stop systemd-resolved".
2) disable systemd-resolved with "systemctl disable systemd-resolved".
3) delete the file "/etc/resolv.conf", which is a symlink to a file created by
systemd.
4) optionally, recreate "/etc/resolv.conf" pointing to the (real) local DNS.

[Bug 1772411] [NEW] opendnssec-common has an invalid config file

2018-05-21 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

The package opendnssec-common has a configuration file in
/usr/share/opendnssec/conf.xml. This file get copied into
/etc/opendnssec/conf.xml but, since it is invalid (due to nested
comments, I think), the services opendnssec-signer and opendnssec-
enforcer do not start, and systemctl signals a degraded state.

I think it would be better to either:
1) distribute a valid config file, or
2) disable the opendnssec-signer and opendnssec-enforcer services by default.

[Bug 1765616] Re: freeipa server install fails - RuntimeError: CA configuration failed.

2018-05-05 Thread gianluca
ipa-server-install still fails for me during step "[24/28]: migrating
certificate profiles to LDAP". It gives me the following error:

NetworkError: cannot connect to
'https://ipa.labeconomnia.unich.it:8443/ca/rest/account/login': [Errno
111] Connection refused

The problem is that, when this error happens, there is no process
listening on port 8843 (checked with netstat -tnlp). During previous
steps, a java process (Tomcat?) is listening on port 8843, but it
periodically goes down and up. Some of these restarts seems triggered by
ipa-server-install, but other seems gratuitous.

[Bug 1769485] [NEW] freeipa install server fails - cannot start apache server with SSL

2018-05-06 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

After having installed the new version of Tomcat 8, compatible with JDK
8 (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomcat8/+bug/1765616),
I am still stucked with freeipa-server on Ubuntu 18.04.

The ipa-server-install script fails during step "[19/21]: starting

[Test Case]

Add repository ppa:freeipa/ppa, install freeipa-server, run ipa-server-
install.

[What expected]

ipa-server-install terminates without errors.

[What happens]

[Bug 1812505] [NEW] search function of the FILES app not working after the SUPER key activation

2019-01-19 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

Hi,

after an upgrade (sorry, not sure which one) I experience this issue:

I press the SUPER key and type the name of the file I'm looking for, if
it does not show up I click on the icon of the "Files" application and
it run a search within that application. Recently, it never finds a
single file. I then click on, e.g., the "home" path on the left hand
side and it nicely search starting from that path.

thanks in advance,
g.

[Bug 1769440] Re: freeipa server install fails - Configuring the web interface, setting up ssl

2018-05-23 Thread gianluca
I think the my trick (copy /usr/sbin/named into /usr/sbin/named-pkcs11)
works quite well. Not sure about the differences between named and
named-pkcs11, but I think it is essentially the fact that named-pkcs11
supports cryptographic devices while plain named doesn't. In order to
avoid /usr/sbin/named-pkcs11 to be rewritten during an update, you may
want to use dpkg-divert.

[Bug 1772921] [NEW] freeipa web ui -- incorrect configuration for awesome fonts

2018-05-23 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

Hi, another bug for FreeIPA, but this is quite trivial and not very
important either. The file /usr/share/ipa/ipa.conf.template containw the
line

Alias /ipa/ui/fonts/fontawesome "${FONTS_DIR}/fontawesome"

for providing the Awesome font to web browsers. $FONTS_DIR si correctly
replaced with /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ when the template is copied
into the Apache configuration directory, but the name of the directory
(fontawesome) is wrong in Ubuntu, since the font is actually installed
into /usr/share/fonts/truetype/font-awesome/ (with the minus sign). As a
result, the web ui is full of unrecognized UTF-8 glyphs.

[Bug 1772450] Re: freeipa server -- problems with certificates

2018-05-23 Thread gianluca
In my case, with dogtag 10.6.1-0ubuntu0.1, giving the "pki cert-find"
command returns tons of warning of the kind

WARN: RESTEASY002145: NoClassDefFoundError: Unable to load builtin
provider org.jboss.resteasy.plugins.providers.InputStreamProvider from
jar:file:/usr/share/java/resteasy-jaxrs.jar!/META-

[Bug 1769440] Re: freeipa server install fails - named-pkcs11 fails to run

2018-05-23 Thread gianluca
Note that named-pkcs11 only crashes at startup when the section

dyndb "ipa" "/usr/lib/bind/ldap.so"

is present. If commented out, the daemon starts (although it becomes
useless in this context).

I did a clean installation with all the new components and it works...
at least more than before. "pki cert-find", "pki cert-show 1" and "ipa
cert-show 1" all works. However, the "Authentication -> Certificates"
tab in the web ui still returns error:

Certificate operation cannot be completed: Unable to communicate with

[Bug 1772450] Re: freeipa server -- problems with certificates

2018-05-25 Thread gianluca
For me this ~ppa3 seems a regression w.r.t. ~ppa2. Commands "pki cert-
find" and "pki cert-show" only worked for a couple of attempts, than
they stopped working with "PKIException: Internal Server Error" and now
this behavior is permanent also across reboots.

I will retry ~pps2 and see if it this also was happening there.

[Bug 1773843] [NEW] cannot upgrade freeipa-server

2018-05-28 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

I am trying to upgrade from freeipa 4.7.0~pre1 to 4.7.0~pre2-0~ppa3 of
the staging repository. The install fails with the following error:
RemoteRetrieveError: Failed to authenticate to CA REST API

In the past, I also tried upgrading freeipa 4.7.0~pre1 to
4.7.0~pre2-0~ppa2 or from 4.7.0~pre2-0~ppa2 to 4.7.0~pre2-0~ppa3. All

Except that Tacitus was born 20 years after Jesus died, so regardless
of his motivation, he had no first-hand knowledge of Jesus'
existence. While Democritus is referenced by people who were alive at
the same time, who actually knew him and his extensive body of work.
Jesus didn't leave behind any writings.

Ouch. Been really close to doing what you did, but I always wimp out
of sneaking stolen stuff in and jettison it.

I was a Rare Cobra pilot until two days ago, and I've got an Asp
now (probably ky the same step you'll take soon by the sounds of it),
and with 108 tonnes (plus the Base ship being more) it REALLY doesn't
slow down when you need it to. The inertia of vertical and lateral
Thrusters is intense too. Definitely no 350+ entrances into docks
anymore!! Even 5kph too much is enough to get your concentration
most of the time.

[Bug 1689399] [NEW] I can't use amdgpu without nomodeset option

2017-05-08 Thread Gianluca
Public bug reported:

when I install amdgpu and reboot, I can see only few seconds of Ubuntu logo
finally in high resolution, but after black screen. I can turn off the pc with
pressing the phisical button and witing for shutdown.
After the installation the only way to log into ubuntu is using nomodeset
parameter in boot.

My hardware is:
HP Pavilion AB129-NL
AMD A10 Extreme Edition Radeon R8, 4C+8G
VGA R7 m360the detailed report is in the attached bugreport

If it can help, I think that the issue is in the dual graphic
management, in fact these systems have the dual graphic configuration
APU + discrete VGA and it seems that the problem happens when the system
try to "start" the second video card.

[Bug 980620] Re: unity search files folders totally unreliable

2012-04-21 Thread gianluca
an additional info: I have the feeling that the SUPER+F is searching
only within the "recent file" set.

also, my previous post does not hold, in a different installation
(without owning trouble at the installation) the behavior is the same:
onyl the recent file set is used

[Bug 749566] Re: Dash - Search for a folder gives everything inside the folder, except the folder itself

2012-04-09 Thread gianluca
thanks for taking care of it, for me it is crucial to open the folder
and searching it by name. i basically would love to have

find ~ -name myname

best
