Hi there. I have the same kind of soundcard (HDA Intel) and I don't get any sound either with Ubuntu 8.04 nor with Ubuntu 7.10 (that I am testing right now).
I am sure that the soundcard is working (because it does in Windows). I suppose that it is a hardware-related issue.
