The Package manager "gear" icon is always there when I am running this USB disk, but there is no update available when i check, and EVERY method I can think of from Synaptic, to "apt-get autoclean" and even enabling backports and cleaning out residual packages, that one xxx.x.xx.x.x.7 kernel item is still there. I remember an error message in the update that said something like "I. (word beginning with "i") is not updatable because this is a Live CD" or something like that; it was DIRECTLYrelated to this kernel (xxx.xx.xx.x-7) issue. [Bug 402767] Re: multisearch CSE breaks l18n+setfocus+images+cached+I'm feeling lucky functionality and "violates user trust"
What ever happened to the users? (Where's TRON when we need him?) Anything that sends information OUT of my computer that I have not pre- authorized is in violation of many privacy policies, regardless of the aggregate. Yes, I am aware of much that goes out (IP address for one), most necessary, some optional, but to include something as this as a default that is functionally UNNECESSARY is both inappropriate and an affront to the intelligence of the FOSS community. Let this be a wake-up call not to "assume" that everyone in the FOSS community is benevolent and good; or at least follow both Code of Conducts and common sense. [Bug 81208] Re: LiveCD 6.06.1 requires big download to update
While it's not a "bug" in the classical sense, the developers and other 'gurus' there need to know that having to do a 140MB ADDITIONAL download on EVERY "new" install (for the new O.O. version, security and library updates, and any other additions since August, '06) both sucks YOUR bandwidth, and ours, and, IMHO, also makes Ubuntu look pretty lame to a total "noob"! Why can't (at least) the updates be placed on a public server so they can be downloaded ONCE and burned to a CD? A must have on this, however, is that some way to "automagically" install these to any existing "virgin" Dapper (or Edgy as it may be) release must be provided for foolproof use, AND FOR verification and validation of the updates! Hypothetically speaking, on an "LTS" release, in 4 years from its offering, the updates may be gigabyte or more, and even a T3 line would "choke-n-puke" on that! Please, quarterly, release a new, tested, and "approved" Ubuntu "maintenance" ISO and make it clear that the prior ISO is now for archive use only! Thanks! [Bug 593352] Re: package linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22.36 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Upon rebooting I get" "Kernel Panic. Not synching VFS. Unable to mount root on unknown block (8,1)" and the a hang. This happens when I update the USB install with "Update manager". I did the same thing last night, and the same result this morning on a completely "erased" USB stick. I get a message at the end of the update in the "Details" section about 3 "Linux" installs - x.22 Kernel, -Generic) that even "Depmod" can't fix. I can't seem to "Cut-n-paste" the messages to a text file to save the exact data. (If it's in a log, it's gone now because erased everything and am trying again - I at least want a bootable Lucid USB for now.) Let me know if this is just a temporary issue or there is a problem with the x.22 Kernel in this instance. I will try the update on this USB stick with additional info or debugging tools later if advised to. -- package linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22.36 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/593352 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This details efforts in finding this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1281661 also: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1283376 This happens on a native (default) install or a live CD. (By using the PC's onboard SVGA I was able to get a test install). I consider this important because it could possibly prevent ATI/AMD AGP graphic card users from being able to use a Karmic Live CD, much less install it. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: agp aperture karmic radeon -- AGP Aperture must be 256Mb or more with Radeon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 445654] [NEW] Possible confusion between "Update" and "Upgrade"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager I know this is trivial, but as I see it, "Updates" update the Repo/Sources list, whereas "Upgrades" actually add, replace or delete apps/packages. Therefore shouldn't it be called "Upgrade Manager"? This could be transparent - leave all the code as it is, just change the wordring text in the dialog box... ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Possible confusion between "Update" and "Upgrade" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445654 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 446483] [NEW] Xsplash (Throbber) appears even with "quiet splash" removed from GRUB2
Public bug reported: #'ing out the entire line still leaves the Throbber page for a bit before going to the login screen - the pre-"X" stuff is still obscured. This is not how Jaunty appeared, and I want to see the boot process code as long as possible without having to look at logs and all that later. [Bug 446371] Re: Audio not working
Unfortunately suggest a clean install to ensure no conflicts, but still can you get the type of hardware/software found in your system for the Audio? I see 2.6.28-15 as a Jaunty Kernel. 2.6.31-x is the Karmic kernel. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KarmicKoala/TechnicalOverview Did you do a upgrade or a new install? Did you see any "Partial Update/Upgrade" warnings? Suggest a fresh new install. [Bug 437429] Re: Cannot prevent login sound
Another vote for NOT having this enabled by default - it should fall in the "Startup Sounds" category. Wouldn't it just be a simple task to remove it in the code where it is now and then add it to where the "Startup Sounds" preferences work?
