[Bug 354995] Re: Brasero Checksum Error

2009-05-24 Thread emarkay
"Hello mrwizer, it seems that you're using wodim, could you please try
to burn with growisofs (remove wodim) and test again? that could be the
cause of the problem, thanks!."

I am getting this error also - how do I do the above?
I confirmed that there are no MD5 entries in Gconf-Editor > Apps > Brasero

Yea - I did the removal instructions there before installing the ATI
driver. I am still researching - also that listed bug is for Jaunty...

The above URL is the focus for me.

This may be a dupe - or that one is a dupe to this:

Confirming that the developers of third party programs need to change
their code?

If so, is the "1" version a "Drop-in" for the ")" and all they have to
do is rename their link in their code?

Regardless I will pass this along to the X-Plane folks

2009-04-29 Thread emarkay
Folks, this bug is logged in for 8.10 Intrepid.
There's (apparently) a new set of issues that MAY be related, but IMHO need
another bug report for 9.04 Jaunty.
See details here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1133931
Can anyone confirm that this is a separate issue?

[Bug 339450] Re: Problems with bookmarks in Firefox 3.0.7

2009-03-08 Thread emarkay
I think I have the same issue. I just noticed that some bookmarks I
added are not being stored in "unsorted bookmarks" and therefore they
disappear when i reload a new FF session? I thought I was being
forgetful, but I just checked this. This seems to be happening only
recently - maybe since 3.0.7?

This is the Canonical (Ubuntu Linux) variant.

I have a post at Mozillazine:

2009-03-24 Thread emarkay
The Package manager "gear" icon is always there when I am running this
USB disk, but there is no update available when i check, and EVERY
method I can think of from Synaptic, to "apt-get autoclean" and even
enabling backports and cleaning out residual packages, that one
xxx.x.xx.x.x.7 kernel item is still there.

I remember an error message in the update that said something like
"I. (word beginning with "i") is not updatable because this is a
Live CD" or something like that; it was DIRECTLYrelated to this kernel
(xxx.xx.xx.x-7) issue. I couldn't Cut and paste the words; if I
encounter it again I will write it down.

I plan to try this "Live USB" in a different computer later today.

[Bug 158487] Re: A way to delete finished jobs needed

2009-03-30 Thread emarkay
Now this is elementary - if something is WRITING the data to a location
, then something can ERASE data from that location.

Having any sort of history that is unremovable (even with "under the
hood tinkering" could preclude Ubuntu from ever being used in a secure
or restricted environment. I consider this a security flaw!

[Bug 352032] [NEW] Beta Testers need complete info on new/changed features

2009-03-30 Thread emarkay
Public bug reported:

For those not in the development loop, or the alpha testing, the Beta
Technical Overview page needs to be more comprehensive:

http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/beta

For example, how can I be a Beta Tester of 9.04 if I am both unsure what
a new feature does and what the technical (behind the scenes) reasons
are for it, what modes and options there may be and any specific issues
on it, etc.

Using the new "Computer Janitor" feature as an example in the following
Ubuntu Forum posts:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6985057
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6985024

Alternatively couldn't an "Active" page can be added to the Beta
Technical Overview pages, in collaboration with the forums, that can be
an "official" moderated FAQ?

[Bug 402767] Re: multisearch CSE breaks l18n+setfocus+images+cached+I'm feeling lucky functionality and "violates user trust"

2009-08-17 Thread emarkay
What ever happened to the users? (Where's TRON when we need him?)
Anything that sends information OUT of my computer that I have not pre-
authorized is in violation of many privacy policies, regardless of the
aggregate. Yes, I am aware of much that goes out (IP address for one),
most necessary, some optional, but to include something as this as a
default that is functionally UNNECESSARY is both inappropriate and an
affront to the intelligence of the FOSS community.

Let this be a wake-up call not to "assume" that everyone in the FOSS
community is benevolent and good; or at least follow both Code of
Conducts and common sense.

I vote to remove it, and also to require full disclosure on any FURTHER
outgoing data collected or sent from computers using Ubuntu and Ubuntu-
authorized programs

[Bug 81208] Re: LiveCD 6.06.1 requires big download to update

2007-01-23 Thread emarkay
While it's not a "bug" in the classical sense, the developers and other
'gurus' there need to know that having to do a 140MB ADDITIONAL download
on EVERY "new" install (for the new O.O. version, security and library
updates, and any other additions since August, '06) both sucks YOUR
bandwidth, and ours, and, IMHO, also makes Ubuntu look pretty lame to a
total "noob"!

Why can't (at least) the updates be placed on a public server so they
can be downloaded ONCE and burned to a CD? A must have on this,
however, is that some way to "automagically" install these to any
existing "virgin" Dapper (or Edgy as it may be) release must be provided
for foolproof use, AND FOR verification and validation of the updates!

Hypothetically speaking, on an "LTS" release, in 4 years from its
offering, the updates may be gigabyte or more, and even a T3 line
would "choke-n-puke" on that!

Please, quarterly, release a new, tested, and "approved" Ubuntu
"maintenance" ISO and make it clear that the prior ISO is now for
archive use only!

Thanks!

[Bug 444824] Re: AGP Aperture must be 256Mb or more with Radeon

2010-05-06 Thread emarkay
Still using the following hardware configuration:
"2.8 G/2G RAM/ATI HD2600,512VRAM/SIS AC97 OB Audio"

Tested this morning with current Karmic and Lucid releases, at 32, 64,
256 & 512 Aperture settings as well as current "Live CD" of Lucid and
had no problem booting, getting into the "X" GUI, or opening Firefox and
displaying a WWW page.

Am "invalidating" this as I presume that either the newer Kernels, or
newer "X" and/or ATI drivers have corrected this problem.

Thanks!

[Bug 481413] Re: KARMIC - FF 3.5.x AND FF 3.6.beta2 randomly crash to Desktop.

The crashes were submitted automatically to Mozilla. I have since
reformatted and reinstalled Karmic, and now using only the Ubuntu
supplied FF3.5.x, I am still getting this. There is much online talk
about Karmic/FF/Flash issues, and even though I haveNoScript and
FlashBlock, I am still affected, and on non flash sites.

Not sure what an "upstream bug report is" in relation to this - to Mozilla or
the Ubuntu, and where would I find the "Crash ID"?

Micah,

accepting my COC, ahem: "bovine fecal matter!"
I do NOT get ANY Ubuntu indication or ANY Firefox indication - it just goes
INSTANTLY to the desktop; no notes, no crash indication no bells or whistles
except the occasional Firefox "oops we are embarassed... do you want to start a
new session or restart the old one"...

What does Apport have to do with ANYTHING in this bug - and if it's got
"fingers" into Firefox, I need to know, to assist in debugging!

Micah, I know you have "the finger on the button" but don't decide for
us without actually asking for facts. This is a real issue.

2009-11-25 Thread emarkay
Micah,

OK, tell me what did "your" Apport tell you about the crashes this
morning, yesterday, the day before, as well as all those that happened
wewn I submitted this report, as well as the other users here, and on
the forums with thje same issue...

You are not showing integrity and proactivity, just "passing the buck";
I mean you haven't even looked at the forums of Ubuntu and Firefox, and
offered individual suggestions and actions in the appropriate posts.

But I will abide by the COC, and I guess if "you" powers that be don't
care about a real problem, I will just deal at my end and forget trying
to help. (I made a post on just this suject a few days ago...)

Why don't you use your authority to make a difference, investigate and
correct, or do the same, too.

Firefox."

It is not a Flash issue and there is no error messages. Just an
immediate appearance of the desktop. On reloading, some times the "This
is embarrassing" restore dialog appears, other times the previous
session just reloads.

I did submit a "CrashReport" last night when it happened in FF 3.6.b2 to
Mozilla.

What can I do to assist in solving this?

[Bug 461350] Re: Video>Filters-"Add Logo" removed, "Partial" selection crashes program

2010-05-19 Thread emarkay
It is STILL not functioning, even in Lucid with version 2.5.2!

One would think that the ONLY Linux Video editor [that used] to]have
this feature would ensure that this useful and "modern" feature would be
fixed by now!

Alessio Treglia, I have returned this to "Confirmed".

Returned to Complete - I am not Alpha testing Maverick, and will not update to
it when it is released.
This does however affect Lucid which is a LTS as well as Karmic, both which are
still active products and are affected by this bug.
I also have confirmed that this is also an issue in the latest GetDeb (release,
which is newer than the Canonical Repos).

[Bug 593352] Re: package linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22.36 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-06-13 Thread emarkay
Upon rebooting I get" "Kernel Panic. Not synching VFS. Unable to mount root on
unknown block (8,1)"
and the a hang.

This happens when I update the USB install with "Update manager".
I did the same thing last night, and the same result this morning on a
completely "erased" USB stick.

I get a message at the end of the update in the "Details" section about
3 "Linux" installs - x.22 Kernel, -Generic) that even "Depmod" can't
fix. I can't seem to "Cut-n-paste" the messages to a text file to save
the exact data. (If it's in a log, it's gone now because erased
everything and am trying again - I at least want a bootable Lucid USB
for now.)

Let me know if this is just a temporary issue or there is a problem
with the x.22 Kernel in this instance. I will try the update on this
USB stick with additional info or debugging tools later if advised to.

Apport triggered this Crash Report, and I presume this bug is pertaining to
this.
Apport "collected complete information about this crash" and should, apparently
attach this to this report. (Did it??)
I have seen this a few times recently and after todays Ludid update figured I
should report it.
I have no additional information as to cause or effects of this crash, as it
was autogenerated and I just "filled in the blanks"

[Bug 543673] [NEW] Lucid Beta 1-New Install-Recovery Mode does not work

2010-03-21 Thread emarkay
Public bug reported:

FYI, I have not reported a bug against the Kernel before this is the procedure
I followed:
"If the boot errors or freezes even in "recovery mode", the bug should be
reported against the kernel."
from:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#At%20the%20login%20screen
to:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Kernel
to:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies
Used  as indicated::
ubuntu-bug -p linux
Got this in response, but report (apparently) worked:
"Warning: The options -p/-P are deprecated, please do not use them. See
/usr/bin/ubuntu-bug --help"

May want to look at those pages and the info below on the submission form.
Also, on this form, when I do "Alternatively, at a minimum include the output
of the following commands executed in a terminal as separate attachments in
your bug report:", I get no response from Terminal from those.

*
This is a new ISO of the Intel 32 bit (standard) release of Beta 1
It boots to the point where the login screen would appear on a non-recovery
boot and then just sits there with a blinking cursor.
That's it - Computer must be recycled or powered off. Other confirmation and

FWIW I still see this as of today.
Also - seeing this [unrelated] bug, I believe that this is a Kernel issue

I am not able to assign this to "linux (Ubuntu)"
Regardless, Brian, I apologize for not doing the research when this was

[Bug 526290] Re: Thunderbird 3 hyperlinks broken

2010-03-21 Thread emarkay
>From
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9006611:

"Thunderbird-gnome-support" wasn't installed.
(Now I know to do this in the future on any reinstall of Thunderbird - All new
installs need to have this added.)
But installing it does nothing, until you again reinstall Thunderbird3.
(Luckily doing so did not overwrite or remove existing configurations). Now it
works as before/intended.

[Bug 444824] [NEW] AGP Aperture must be 256Mb or more with Radeon

2009-10-06 Thread emarkay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

In a 2.94 Ghz Celeron with the ATI/AMD Radeon 2600XT AGP8X card (This
card is still supported by ATI), Mfg. is:
"ati2mag_RV630,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9586"

To boot into live CD or installed Karmic Beta, the BIOS setting of "AGP
Aperture" must be set at 256 or greater.

This details efforts in finding this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1281661
also:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1283376

This happens on a native (default) install or a live CD. (By using the
PC's onboard SVGA I was able to get a test install). I consider this
important because it could possibly prevent ATI/AMD AGP graphic card
users from being able to use a Karmic Live CD, much less install it.

[Bug 445654] [NEW] Possible confusion between "Update" and "Upgrade"

2009-10-07 Thread emarkay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I know this is trivial, but as I see it, "Updates" update the
Repo/Sources list, whereas "Upgrades" actually add, replace or delete
apps/packages.

Therefore shouldn't it be called "Upgrade Manager"?

This could be transparent - leave all the code as it is, just change the
wordring text in the dialog box...

[Bug 446483] [NEW] Xsplash (Throbber) appears even with "quiet splash" removed from GRUB2

2009-10-08 Thread emarkay
Public bug reported:

#'ing out the entire line still leaves the Throbber page for a bit before
going to the login screen - the pre-"X" stuff is still obscured.
This is not how Jaunty appeared, and I want to see the boot process code as
long as possible without having to look at logs and all that later. This is
found in the file / etc/default/grub

Unfortunately suggest a clean install to ensure no conflicts, but still can you
get the type of hardware/software found in your system for the Audio?
If you use Windows you can get that from "System Information" . In Ubuntu you
realy need a package like "Sysinfo" - it's in the repositories.

Latest Karmic kernel is: 2.6.31.12

Did you do a upgrade or a new install?
Did you see any "Partial Update/Upgrade" warnings?

[Bug 437429] Re: Cannot prevent login sound

Another vote for NOT having this enabled by default - it should fall in the
"Startup Sounds" category.
Wouldn't it just be a simple task to remove it in the code where it is now and

There is no reason for this - libraries and late night reboots are 100%
proof!
