Same symptoms here with a Dell laptop (Precision M6400) with Kubuntu AMD64: - no sound with the default kernel in Jaunty (2.6.28-11-generic) - perfect sound with the default kernel in Intrepid (2.6.27-11-generic) ( I still have installed, easy to choose upon boot) I tried to install Pulseaudio, and reached a point where there is some activity reported with playback volumes of the padevchooser systray icon (apt-get install padevchooser + Atl+F2 "padevchooser"), but without any sound (see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1136724) Also,it is not clear to me if a stock Kubuntu is using pulseaudio or not, and if there is any gain to use it. I installed amarok-kde4-dbg and libxine1-dbg. Here is the backtrace: This backtrace appears to be of no use. This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash. [Bug 239832] Re: SATA disk not recognized
Thank you for your quick replies :) The problem happens with a external disk containing nothing but data. This disk is usually disconnected when the laptop boots, and is connected/disconnected from time to time by plugging the pccard to which it is connected to, when I need to access the data it contains. The system is thus boots and behaves normally, except that the disk is not recognized anymore when I plug the pccard, as it used to be the case before the last reboot, which occured yesterday. Once the pccard is plugged, the system stays responsive, nothing happens from a user point of view, but the message I sent are printed in the logs. About the kernel I am using, I know it is already quite old, but nothing else is proposed by apt-get or adept. I guess this is the current version for Gutsy, but I may be wrong ? -- SATA disk not recognized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239832 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 239832] Re: SATA disk not recognized
I just noticed that this morning (8am here), the disk is properly recognized. Looks like the suspend to ram (during the night) helped a bit. Strange. [Bug 362413] [NEW] 8.10 / Amarok 2.0.1 / [ Phonon/xine? ] = signal 11 when pressing STOP
Public bug reported: I installed recently Amarok 2.0.1 on my Kubuntu 8.10 AMD64 box running KDE 4.2.2. It works quite well, but there is a very annoying bug: when the stop button is pressed its always crashes with SIGSEGV. Unfortunately, the KDE crash handler is not able to generate an valid backtrace. [Bug 123064] Re: Upgrade to Eclipse 3.4.2
Well... IMHO, the "own internal update, plugin installation and dependency resolving system" is not that reliable. I cannot count the number of problems and workarounds I had trying to install several plugins with different (and incompatible) dependencies. It's so painful that most plugin editors also release a version of their plugin bundled with eclipse, to avoid its integration if you want to give it a try. Also, I think that when you are a part-time developper, being able to install your workspace from clean distribution package, if you want, is a real advantage since you can focus on your job, and not on system administration/maintainance tasks. What's the status of other major distribution ? Most of them ship Ganymede (3.4)... so it seems to be feasible... or maybe I missed something ? -- Upgrade to Eclipse 3.4.2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123064 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't know, but i added the "nosplash" option in the menu.lst file of grub, and the boot is thus less fancy, but I have the console :) Aurelien On Thursday 12 October 2006 04:49, Andrew Ash wrote: > What's the status of this bug? [Bug 125115] Re: python bindings not included
The openbabel-perl API is quite good and used by quite a few people I know. Right now, we all have to compile openbabel from sources instead of using the deb package available in ubuntu. From sources, the compilation of this binding is very easy : cd scripts/perl && perl Makefile.PL && make && make test && make install (see http://openbabel.org/wiki/Install_(source_code)#Install_the_Perl_bindings_globally ). I'm not familiar at all with the process of creating packages, but I'm willing to help, if needed.
